He has broken the club's record for the best Premier League start having bagged an impressive seven goals and seven assists to catapult his side into Champions League contention.

And while the Portugal star has been reaching Old Trafford milestones, he found the time to piece together his perfect football player.

The 25-year-old was asked by to choose from the many stars he has played with and against throughout his career.

And it was no surprise that his international teammate and pal Cristiano Ronaldo made the cut as the most skilful player.

Fernandes said: “I think he changed his game a little bit, but he’s still a player who is really difficult one against one to defend against.

“For me, for everyone I have played with and against, I think he is the most skilful player I have ever seen.”

The United icon has previously revealed that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is his "idol" and that a chat with Ronaldo helped convince him to join the Red Devils.

The midfield maestro honed in on Rashford for his killer pace, in a season where has found the net 21 times in 38 appearances so far.

Fernandes added: "Rashford, I think he can have amazing pace but with amazing quality,

“It is difficult sometimes going at that velocity and still have the quality to do the right things – the right time to shoot, to pass, the skills.

“He surprised me a lot. Of course I already knew his quality because he is one of the best young players in the world.”

Fernandes opted for Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon, who turns 43 next January, as the ultimate leader.

The Italian icon is on course for his tenth league title with Juve this season having recently extended his extraordinary career

Buffon is also the Bianconeri's record appearance holder in Serie A on 479, having joined them in 2001 after 168 top-flight matches for Parma.

Eintracht Frankfurt's forward Bas Dost came out trumps for his finishing ability, having enjoyed a fruitful partnership with Fernandes at Sporting Lisbon.

N'Golo Kante pipped the lot for the best work rate while World Cup winners Andrea Pirlo and Andres Iniesta were chosen for their faultless football brains.
