ALL A BRIT TASTY

Canelo Alvarez has ‘very good chance’ of fighting Brit as next opponent reveals promoter… but who could he take on?

SAUL 'CANELO' ALVAREZ could fight a British boxer in September, his promoters have said.

Boxing is coming back with a bang after the coronavirus pandemic put the action on hold.

And there is already lots of talk about who four-weight world champ Canelo, 29, could face.

Golden Boy president Eric Gomez told that his man "wants to fight the best".

And Gomez admitted they are already ";looking at a couple of guys" from these shores.

Here, SunSport checks out five possible opponents if Golden Boy choose to 'go British' in September.

CALLUM SMITH

This is probably the fight most British boxing fans would want to see.

WBA super-middleweight champ Smith is undefeated, although many thought he was lucky to get the decision against John Ryder last time out.

The Liverpool fighter is huge for his weight, so could match power with the ferocious Canelo.

But Joe Gallagher and his team have matched Smith, 30, cleverly throughout his career - would he risk it all against one of boxing's best ever?

BILLY JOE SAUNDERS

The current WBO super-middleweight champ ruled himself out recently saying he wasn't been given enough time or money for the fight.

But for all the talent he possesses, Saunders, 30, has equal measures of unpredictability.

It could all be a ploy to get more money for what would easily be the biggest fight of his career.

Like Smith, Saunders would be putting his undefeated record on the line - but would be set for life regardless.

JOHN RYDER

Many believe he had done enough to beat Smith when the two fought in November last year.

But 'The Gorilla' fell to a unanimous points loss and was denied the WBA super-middleweight world title.

Unsurprisingly after a more-than-difficult night's work, there haven't been any offers of a rematch incoming from Team Smith.

Ryder, 31, would jump at a shot against Canelo - and wouldn't command a fee as high as some of the other boxers in this list.

CHRIS EUBANK JR

Similar to Ryder's position in that a fight against Canelo could offer a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The son of a boxing legend has his fair share of critics - but a brave performance in losing to George Groves and then ending James DeGale's career have won him some plaudits.

Eubank Jr, 30, has been critical of bitter rival Saunders, who beat him in 2014, or seemingly pulling out of a fight against Canelo.

He has held the IBO super-middleweight belt - but many disregard this as a true world title.

A scrap against Canelo would put him on the cusp of a major title shot.

LIAM WILLIAMS

The Welsh banger would probably fight Canelo for free.

The 28-year-old has fought at super-welter and now middle, and has looked every bit world class after registering six straight KO wins.

He has been chasing a fight against WBO middleweight champ Demetrius Andrade - but perhaps wisely the American seems to be dodging that one.

Team Canelo might view Williams as an easier option being relatively one-dimensional and with an up and at 'em style.
