Khabib’s manager confirmed the sad news on Friday morning, with Notorious taking to social media tonight to pay his respects.

McGregor tweeted: “The loss of a father, a coach, and a dedicated supporter of the sport. Condolences and rest in peace Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.”

Earlier McGregor’s coach, John Kavanagh, posted a message reading: “Very sorry to hear of the passing of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. A genius of combat sports and absolute inspiration to so many up and coming fighters. Sadly only entering his prime of coaching, such a loss and tragedy. RIP and best wishes to his family during this difficult time.”

Former UFC two-weight champ McGregor and reigning lightweight title holder Khabib a fierce rivalry.

Following months of trash talking, plus the Irishman launching an attack on a bus carrying the Dagestani fighter, the two came face-to-face inside the Octagon at UFC 229 in October 2018.

In the most-watched UFC pay-per-view in history, undefeated Khabib secured victory via fourth-round submission - but that was only the beginning of the feud.

A huge post-fight melee ensued inside and outside the cage with unrelenting verbals between the pair since.

McGregor has called for a rematch numerous times since that loss, but the champ seems to have no interest.

However, Abdulmanap declared he had “forgiven” McGregor for his antics and jibes after the fight with his son.

Writing in a 2018 Instagram post, he wrote: “As-salamu alaykum all. I forgive Conor McGregor, all in the past.

“It is necessary to make an analysis of everything that happened, and learn lessons. After talking with aksakals and wise countrymen, they decided to move to other heights. I hope this is a blessing.”
