Claudio Ranieri, boss of champions-elect Leicester, and former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel were also in attendance as the Swiss watchmaker was unveiled as the league’s official timekeeper.

Referees will also wear specially designed TAG Heuer watches next campaign.

The deal comes as part of a revamp of the Premier League’s sponsorship set-up.

Its £40million-a-season title sponsorship deal with Barclays is up in the summer and chiefs are looking to develop a wealth of top tier partners in its place.

Barclays, Nike Inc. and Electronic Arts Inc. have already signed agreements from next season.

The Prem has already unveiled a replacement for its ‘lion’ logo — which controversially contains NO image linking it to football.
