Canelo Alvarez vs Billy Joe Saunders set to be postponed before it has even been officially announced due to coronavirus

claim DAZN and Golden Boy Promotions want to analyse the situation amid the chaos the deadly bug has wreaked on the sporting calendar across the world before confirming the date.

The coronavirus outbreak has brought American sport to a halt, with the NBA and NHL both suspending their seasons, with the MLS announcing they are suspending games for 30 days.

And the PGA announced earlier the Players Championship  has been cancelled after the first round due to the coronavirus crisis with the next three events have also been scrapped with the next one scheduled being The Masters in April.

Therefore it makes little sense for Canelo vs Saunders to be confirmed for May 2 now when there is every possibility it could be postponed also.

And that could mean bad news for the 30-year-old WBO super-middleweight Saunders.

Should the fight be unable to be held before July, then it will be extremely difficult for it to be staged during the second part of 2020.

Canelo is set to be face Ryota Murata either later this year or early 2021.

And other reports suggest Canelo has agreed to fight Golovkin in September, as long as GGG wins his interim fight against IBF mandatory Kamil Szeremeta in the spring or summer.

That means Saunders could be forced to wait until September 2021.
