Ian Watson close to agreeing new deal to stay as Salford coach
IAN Watson is set to stay at Salford by signing a new deal.
The Red Devils boss is hot property after their miraculous run to last year’s Grand Final, with even NRL sides taking notice.
But SunSport understands he is set to put pen to paper on a contract extension sooner rather than later.
Club sources say talks are at an ‘advanced stage’ as they look to build on 2019’s success in 2020.
And the man in charge has pinpointed half-back Tui Lolohea as his kingpin after guiding Tonga to wins over Great Britain and Australia.
He also believes the stand-off, who arrived midway through last season after a miserable stint at Leeds, can get even better.
He said: “Tui’s been great since he came in and I’m expecting him to be better again this year.
“He’s a bit of a gem as a player. He was known when he was coming through the system in the NRL, it’s all been about building on his potential which we saw at the back end of last year.
“We just need to keep him going in the right direction.
“Tui’s a bit deceptive. He looks like he may be carrying a bit of weight but he’s right at the front in the fitness drills.
“Looks can be deceiving.”
