Yet, Arsenal are not satisfied with just taking Arteta from the Premier League champions, as they also target their top talent-spotter.

So what is the deal with Sam Fagbemi?

Who is Sam Fagbemi?

Fagbemi may only be 25, but is already spotting players for Manchester City - and seeing deals signed for them.

He currently leads the Premier League champions' youth scouting in the south, allying himself with head of academy recruitment Joe Shields, who Arsenal have tried to tempt to London in the past.

Although Fagbemi has not been involved in the big multi-million pound deals like Rodri, Riyad Mahrez and Kyle Walker since joining in January 2017, he has been tasked with finding the next big thing.

As reported by , the youngster helped pick out four youth signings in the summer, including Josh WIlson-Eshbrand from West Ham.

Ben Knight from Ipswich, and former Millwall duo Sam Edozie and Darko Gyabi were also Fagbemi's finds.

Is he joining Arsenal?

Fagbemi has already been at Arsenal in the past, having left the Gunners for the bright lights of Manchester in 2017.

During his time in North London, the talent-spotter was in a similar position to his current role, acting as video scout for the youth academy.

Yet, Fagbemi has been heavily linked with returning to Arsenal with Mikel Arteta, where he would likely work alongside Academy Manager Per Mertesacker.

The Emirates Stadium outfit will be keen to get him on board, after losing out to City in their hunt for several youngsters - despite being within close proximity.

The failure to land targets led to a shake-up that saw Steve Morrow depart in November.
