CONOR McGREGOR will sensationally end his UFC retirement and fight Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 on January 18.

The Notorious has not fought since his crushing defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October 2018.

He then announced his retirement from the Octagon - but teased a grand return sporadically on social media.

And now UFC chief Dana White has confirmed the 31-year-old will be coming back to the sport that made him famous.

Speaking to White said: "Conor has signed and Cowboy is ready to go."

It is expected the man known as "The Notorious" will fight Cerrone in a non-title bout at welterweight.

It will be the headline fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The news will come as a bitter blow to rival Dustin Poirier who was angling for a rematch against the Irishman.

Poirier was beaten by McGregor at featherweight in 2014 and he reckons their rematch makes more sense than facing Cerrone.

He told: “I respect Cowboy and everything he’s done but I do think he’s on the back end of his career.

“It’s ‘Cowboy,’ he can show up and submit or knock out Conor as well. I’m not counting the guy completely out but I do think that is a more favorable fight for him on his return.

“Fight a guy who’s been KO’d or TKO’d twice in his past two fights? I’m not a matchmaker. I think me and [McGregor] makes more sense.”

McGregor, 31, revealed he plans to fight three times in 2020, facing either Nate Diaz or Jorge Masvidal before again challenging lightweight king Nurmagomedov.

He also recently shared an incredible body transformation picture ahead of his UFC comeback.
