Watch Deontay Wilder ‘knock the soul and spirit’ out of Luis Ortiz with brutal right that left crowd gasping with shock
DEONTAY WILDER retained his WBC heavyweight belt in trademark fashion - with yet another devastating knockout.
The American, 34, sent Luis Ortiz crashing to the canvas as the crowd inside the MGM Arena in Las Vegas gasped in shock.
Wilder was actually behind on the judges' scorecards when he opened up Ortiz.
After throwing a left-handed jab, the Bronze Bomber lived up to his nickname by smashing the Cuban with a ferocious right.
Stunned Ortiz tried to get back to his feet but was counted out as Wilder extended his unbeaten record to 43 fights.
The win was the tenth time he had successfully defended his world title, tying him with Muhammad Ali.
It was yet another display of sheer power from the WBC champ, who called out Tyson Fury for the rematch - but has his eyes on a unification bout.
Unsurprisingly, Twitter was talking about one moment - the brutal blow.
This is insane. You can see the moment the soul of Ortiz left his body. That’s not sweat. That’s his spirit. It’s gone.
One person said: “There was enough water in the sweat Wilder knocked off Ortiz’s head it could create a rain cloud in the MGM Arena….DAMN!!!!”
Another wrote: “The baddest man in boxing. What a KO by Deontay Wilder.”
One person commented: "I am pretty sure we just witnessed @BronzeBomber extract a soul out of a body."
A third added: “This is insane. You can see the moment the soul of Ortiz left his body. That’s not sweat. That’s his spirit. It’s gone.”
And a final user tweeted: “Wilder had Ortiz tryna stand up like a newborn.”
Wilder spoke about his ability to win fights in a matter of seconds, while acknowledging his opponents must be perfect for 12 rounds to have any chance of dethroning him.
He said: "With Ortiz, you see why everyone has avoided him, I had to play with him and calculate. I had to measure him.
“I had to go back and forward and use different tactics, my IQ in the ring is high but I get no credit for it.
“I bust him up with a left hook and took it on from there. I was very confident in my ability and skill. I had to calculate Ortiz perfectly.
“My opponents have to be perfect for all 12 rounds, I only have to be perfect for two seconds.
“I got my range and got my distance and pulled the trigger.
“Tyson Fury is definitely next and then I want to unify the division against the winner of Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Jr.”
