Wladimir Klitschko planning stunning return to boxing and wants to become oldest ever heavyweight champion

BOXING legend Wladimir Klitschko has sensationally revealed he wants to return to boxing to become the oldest heavyweight champion ever.

But the former WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight world champ will have to wait another two years to set that record.

Former two-time champ George Foreman has that illustrious honour, winning the world title aged 45 in 1994.

Klitschko, who retired after his crushing defeat to Anthony Joshua back in 2017, is 43-years-old.

But a return to the sport that made him a household name seems more than just an "option" for the Ukrainian.

Speaking to , Klitschko said: "I still got it. Can I fight? Yes. Right now I keep my options open.

"There is going to be no comeback to come back and to break a jaw. It's a comeback to break a record.

"Is it appealing? I would say yeah, it's pretty cool.

"George Foreman did it. He was 45 I believe when he became champion, and it's a pretty cool statement."

LINKED WITH DAZN RETURN

SunSport revealed last year that Klitschko was in talks for a sensational return to boxing and a £76m deal with DAZN.

Promoter Eddie Hearn told iFL TV: “I think he is looking at it. Nothing is happening at the moment.

"DAZN have spoken to him. We’d love him back, I love Klitschko.

"I think he is great, but we will see.”

Klitschko has also spoken about his “obsession" to become a champion again.

He had thanked Joshua on Twitter for their fight in April 2017 at Wembley, which he lost despite knocking down his rival.

The two have since become close pals, and have often spoke of their mutual respect for each other.

Hinting that a boxing return was on the card, earlier this year he tweeted: “Although, I didn’t win the titles on April 29th 2017, for me, it was one of my best days in my long boxing career (so far)."

“Thanks @anthonyfjoshua for being the perfect opponent and part of my obsession to become a champion again! #obsessed.”

Klitschko had lost his belts to Brit Tyson Fury two years earlier after a disappointing points loss in his adopted boxing heartland of Germany.
