Amir Khan talks up blockbuster bout as he says ‘time is right’ to face Pacquiao or Brook in ‘early 2020’
AMIR KHAN believes the “time is right” to take on Manny Pacquiao or Kell Brook – and could meet one of his major rivals early next year.
The Bolton boxer, 32, has fought twice in 2019 but is now set to take the rest of the year off before resuming training in early 2020 in order to be ready for a blockbuster showdown.
He was dispatched by Terence Crawford in Madison Square Garden in April but recovered to beat Billy Dib in Saudi Arabia in July.
And ‘King Khan’ believes his next fight could be another one to be staged in a far-from-traditional boxing venue.
Speaking to , Khan said: “Fighting in Saudi Arabia helped me in the Middle East to get my name out there and it was a full house.
“There’s talk about Dubai, talks about Saudi Arabia again, talks about doing something big there.
“There’s a few options out there for me.
“I’m at a stage in my career where every fight is big, so I have to make sure I’m taking the right fight at the right time.
“I think it’s the right time for me to take the Manny Pacquiao or Kell Brook fight.”
Former light-welterweight champ Khan is desperate for another massive bout and is eyeing the legendary Filipino or compatriot Brook.
Pacquiao became the oldest world welterweight belt holder in July when he beat Keith Thurman at the age of 40 – any fight with Khan would take place after his 41st birthday.
Brook, meanwhile, has not fought since last December when he beat Michael Zerafa in only his second bout since losing his WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight titles to Gennady Golovkin and then his IBF crown to Errol Spece Jr in successive contests.
