THE first images of the Gladiator-style arena that will host Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Andy Ruiz in Saudi Arabia have been revealed.
AJ travels to the Middle East on December 7 looking to gain revenge on the Mexican and reclaim the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles in the purpose-built stadium.
Tickets details for the “Clash on the Dunes” will be released over the weekend.
But Matchroom have whetted the appetite of fight fans by sharing a video of what the venue will look like.
The still to-be-completed Diriyah Arena will have a capacity of 15,000 and is on the outskirts of Riyadh.
And it has a unique look due to it’s three-sided build – with a separate stand also on the fourth side which is likely to house the changing rooms, VIPS and TV studios.
The Saudi General Sports Authority (GSA) have also secured another bumper event to be held at their new sporting hotspot.
The country will host its first-ever international tennis tournament later this year in what has been described as a “watershed moment” by Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, president of GSA.
The Diriyah Tennis Cup will be played on a hard-court surface with Stanislas Wawrinka, Daniil Medvedev, Fabio Fognini and David Goffin all confirmed to compete.
That will run the week after Joshua’s shot at redemption between December 12 and 14.
