Pact Coffee: quick summary

  • Shop Pact Coffee

For a long time, Pact Coffee has been like my Netflix and Amazon Prime subscriptions; something I’ve never considered cancelling, because it always delivers.

It’s value for money, it’s reliable, and it opens up a world of coffee-tasting possibilities.

Yes, it’s cheaper to buy your coffee from the supermarket, but Pact Coffee takes the legwork out of my morning brew and I’ve never looked back.

Whatever coffee you prefer, you’ll be able to find one you love in Pact’s library, plus you’ll be able to expand your tasting horizons depending on the subscription you opt for.

There’s something particularly soul-destroying about realising you’ve run out of coffee and having to go to the shop first thing in the morning.

Luckily, having a Pact Coffee subscription means I’ve avoided that cold, sad walk for over two years.

I signed up for the Micro-Lot subscription (£10.95 per delivery) back in 2021 and since then, getting a thick cardboard envelope through my door three times a month (I get through a lot of coffee) has become a part of the routine I rely on.

You can vary the types of coffee you get from Pact, but with my Microlot subscription, I’ve received a mix of strengths and tasting notes over the years.

Throughout your subscription, you can provide feedback on the coffee you receive to ensure you’re only sent the blends you like. Or, if you like to live dangerously, you can opt for a more random approach and spin the wheel.

That approach has meant I’ve tried loads of different coffees. And, since I’m not picky, it’s always a bit of an adventure. By and large, they’ve ranged from good to great, although there’s been a couple of misses, including the ‘strawberries and cream’ blend that tasted alarmingly like it sounded.

If you’re just after the coffee delivery at a cheaper price, you can opt for a bag of house blend (£9.75 per delivery) to be delivered whenever you need it.

At the time of writing, most online coffee subscriptions cost around the same; about £8 for a 250g bag, delivered to your door, so Pact fits in with its competitors here.

For context, if you were to buy a bag of ground coffee from the supermarket, you could expect to pay between £3-£5 for the same amount.

So you’re not going to save money by signing up for Pact, but you will get the opportunity to try plenty of high-quality coffee you can’t buy at the corner shop.

Plus, Pact stands out by trying to pay coffee farmers a better wage by putting them closer to the consumers (you can read more about Pact’s mission ).

How much does Pact cost?

  • Shop Pact Coffee

The cost of a Pact Coffee subscription varies depending on what package you sign up for.

Each 250g delivery of 'House Blend' will set you back £7.95.

If you opt for the 'Select' package, it’ll cost £8.95 a bag; if you go for the 'Micro Lot' subscription, it’ll cost you £10.95 per delivery.

Pact also sells coffee in a variety of other ways from the website, including larger bags and Nespresso-compatible pods.

You can find all of Pact’s coffee options .

Pact Coffee: the verdict

  • Shop Pact Coffee

I’ve been a big fan of Pact since I first signed up and I see no sign of that changing.

I love receiving a new coffee to try with each new package and the convenience and reliability have never been in doubt.

The fact that Pact is working to provide its coffee more sustainably is an added perk.

What's the best way to brew Pact coffee?

Pact offers you loads of options for how you can receive your beans.

To start with, you can choose whether you'd like whole beans to grind yourself, ground beans or Nespresso-compatible pods.

If you opt for ground beans, you can choose your grind depending on how you make your coffee.

There are options for cafetieres, drip filters, Aeropress, Chemex, stove top brewers, espresso machines and V60 pourers.

I've got a V60 pourer (which costs £15 with a bag of house blend coffee at the time of writing) and that's served me well throughout my Pact subscription.

But as for what's the best way to brew? That's up to you. For my money, it's worth borrowing or testing out different methods any way you can and picking your favourite through a bit of trial and error.

I've stuck with the V60 because it's cheap, simple and there's minimal clean-up. I just put the filter and coffee grounds in the compost when I'm done.
