I tried the TikTok viral Dior Lip Glow Oil

LIP oils are currently taking centre stage in the beauty world and if you hop onto TikTok, you'll find your 'For You' Page will likely be laden with every Dior Lip Glow Oil review under the sun.

Famous for its 'your lips but better', glowing finish, it's known for making your pout look fuller with a subtle tint and enhancing your natural colour. Turns out the clean girl aesthetic isn't going anywhere.

Dior has a pretty good track record when it comes to genuinely good makeup; I personally have never used a better concealer than the while the Backstage Face and Body Highlighter gives skin that kind of sheen that makes you want to melt your fingers into it. A strange analogy, granted, but you get my gist.

An alternative to the hair-catching, seriously unwearable lip glosses of old, an oil blends together ingredients that are good for your lips like cherry oil and hydrating properties with regular makeup for a natural, glinting pout.

So what is it about this lip oil in particular that's whipped the beauty world into a frenzy? Well, this one uses technology that adjusts to the moisture level of your lips to create a custom colour that suits you perfectly.

If I'm being completely honest, the glowing - if you'll pardon the pun - reviews on social media, left me feeling a little cold because sometimes thoughts around designer makeup can feel insincere, but when I put my cherry version to the test, I can say that it did live up to the hype.

The big doe foot applicator slicked the gloopy product over my lips without any fuss and although I did think, "hmm this feels a bit sticky", I also thought, "okay, my lips look amazing".

Plump and shiny without looking overly glossy, this is what people mean when they say they're looking for a natural glow and I was fully aware that I was about to become as obsessed with this product as everyone else on the internet.

Lip Glow oil review: first impressions

  • Dior Lip Glow Oil, £30 from Dior -

The lip oil arrived in typical Dior fashion - packaged carefully and neatly in a little Dior bag which always gives me that little twinge of excitement.

After untying the ribbons that keep the bag closed, I found a small silver box inside which looked luxe and enticing. Inside sat the main event. The Lip Glow Oil comes in a small see through tube with a silver lid which twists off to reveal the big, cushion like doe foot applicator.

So far so good. When I pulled the applicator out of the oil, the product did appear quite sticky and when I applied it to my lips I noticed that the non-stickiness claim wasn't quite true. Even as I left it to settle, the tackiness stayed.

Having said that, it was absolutely nowhere near as prohibitive as a regular lip gloss and it felt hydrating on my lips. Plus the shiny, plump finish that everyone raves about was instantaneous.

The moment the product glided over my, admittedly quite dry, lips they looked healthy, plump hydrated and glowy. Dior certainly got the name right with this one.

I was seriously impressed with the slight cherry tint that really did blend with my natural lip colour and cheat a healthy shade. It was comfortable to wear but if I rubbed my lips together I could feel the tackiness even after a couple of hours of wear.

I'm not personally a big fan of scents and flavouring in makeup if it's not completely natural, but the sweet minty smell of the lip oil wasn't offensive, and for people who do like their makeup to have a scent, this will be right up your street.

How much is the Dior Lip Glow Oil?

This is the sticking point of this product - the Dior Lip Glow Oil costs an eye-watering £30. There's no getting around it.

Having said that, that is the sort of money you'd expect to pay for a beauty product from a world-famous designer brand like Dior. To put it into context, the Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss would set you back £31 and for my money, I'd lean towards the Lip Glow Oil every time.

In a way, I'd think of the Lip Glow Oil as getting two products in one because of the lip mask-like benefits that are in the formula which makes the £30 a little more bearable.

But basically, it's a designer product with a designer price tag.

Dior Lip Glow Oil alternatives UK

If you can't quite bring yourself to spend £30 on lip oil, I don't blame you and you'll be happy to hear there are dupes on the market although they're so popular that you might have to sign up to a waitlist for them to come back in stock.

Revolution is the frontrunner when it comes to designer alternatives and its will cost you only £7.

You can also try for £7.49 and for something a little more expensive but not quite £30, I love the Bobbi Brown which gives that plumping effect for £23.

Dior Lip Glow Oil review: the verdict

Overall, I was really impressed with this product despite its hefty price tag. It left my lips looking plump, healthy, hydrated and rosy and I was genuinely shocked by how good it looked on. This is going straight into my lipstick rotation and I can see myself wearing this on holiday and throughout summer.

Is the Dior Lip Glow Oil worth it?

Although I am fully aware that £30 is a lot of money for a lip product, I would still recommend this product for its natural, glowing finish and uniquely personal technology. Is it life-changing? Of course not, but if your budget stretches, it's a lovely addition to your makeup collection.
