Gousto review 2025: The recipe kit that made my meals feel five star for £1.75 a serving

GOUSTO recipe boxes offer up a selection of 75 dishes every week, but does the quality match the quantity? We put a week's worth of recipes to the test to find out.
Gousto's tagline is ‘Who says Tuesday can’t taste like Saturday?’, aiming to entice hungry shoppers to ditch their usual bland weeknight meal in favour of the flavourful, easy-to-make recipes you get in a Gousto box.
Especially when you’re busy, it’s easy to spend your weeknights on autopilot.
After a long day at work, a crammed commute and maybe even a workout, there’s not much brain power left to think about what to have for dinner.

Pros:
- Great recipe variation
- Easy-to-follow recipes
- All the ingredients are delivered straight to your door
- Get to do the fun parts of cooking without having to shop or plan
- You can cancel at any time
Cons:
- Sometimes the recipe calls for basic ingredients most people will have in their fridge or pantry that aren't included in the box
- Automatically signs you up for a subscription
This means we often end up eating the same boring meals over and over again with little to no variation.
We were feeling like we were stuck in a rut, not only with our weeknight meals but also with our weeknight routine.
With a passionate love of food and cooking, we never saw ourselves becoming the kind of person who lived off the same three quick and easy meals on rotation, but a busy schedule leaves you looking for any way to save time.
When we stumbled upon Gousto's meal delivery service, we thought the recipe boxes looked like a way to save time while still getting to enjoy cooking and sitting down to a home-cooked meal, without having to come up with recipes and brave the shops.

First impressions
We decided to get our Gousto meals delivered on Monday so we could start off our week on the right foot, and around midday, our big red Gousto box arrived.
Inside the box were five brown bags with a number on them that matched one of the included recipe cards, so we didn’t even have to open the bag to know which one was which.
The ingredients that needed to be kept cool were in a separate bag being kept cold by ice bags so if I was a little late to put everything in the fridge it would have been fine.
We live in a houseshare and only have a claim to one shelf in the fridge so we had been a little worried everything wouldn’t fit, but that wasn’t the case. We had five recipes, each with two servings, and it fit onto one shelf comfortably.

Getting started
On the first night when I was flipping through the recipe cards, we genuinely struggled to decide what to cook because everything not only looked good but was extremely different.
Different ingredients, different cuisines, different flavours; the variation was incredible.
The variety in the meals really impressed us and tasted far more expensive than the price would suggest and it felt like we were really treating ourselves.
Prices start from £3.14 per serving, but for your first box, Gousto will treat you to 60 percent off - bringing the meals down to as low as £1.75 each.
Final thoughts
We had a truly excellent experience during our week with Gousto, and would definitely do it again.
The recipes and menu variety were really impressive, and even though I’m a pescatarian which could have been limiting, the meals never got repetitive or boring. The meals seemed far more expensive than the accessible price point would suggest, and all the food was fresh and downright delicious.
If we were really trying to impress a new date or some guests during a dinner party we think a Gousto box would be a powerful secret weapon that would make it look like you really know your way around a kitchen.

How much is Gousto?
The price of a Gousto box varies depending on how many meals you want to receive.
The smallest box on offer is a regular box with two recipes, which equates to four meals as each recipe has two servings. This means enough for two people or one with leftovers, and this will set you back just £24.99 (or £6.25 a portion).
If you want a Gousto box for the whole family, the biggest box on offer is the large box with four recipes which is enough for four adults (or two with enough leftovers for lunch) or two adults and two or three children. This box goes for £50.25 which is £3.14 per portion.
Gousto offers 60% off the first box for first time buyers, so the prices could get get as low as £1.75 a portion.
Is Gousto worth it?
If you’re looking for a service that will deliver you the ingredients you need to make a restaurant-quality meal at home, look no further than Gousto.
Cooking fancy meals usually requires a few ingredients that are a little out of the left-field, meaning you often have to buy produce in larger quantities than you’d like to, creating waste and taking up room in an already packed pantry.
A Gousto recipe box comes with all the ingredients you need perfectly portioned for the recipes you’re making, limiting food waste and letting you flex your chef muscles.

How to Cancel Gousto
Cancelling your Gousto box couldn’t be simpler, just head to your subscription settings and click ‘pause’. When your subscription has been paused, all the orders you have coming up will be cancelled until you unpause them.
One important thing to remember is that pausing will only remove empty scheduled orders, if you’d already picked your recipes you’ll have to cancel the order individually through the ‘upcoming deliveries’ tab.
How long can a Gousto box stay outside?
Gousto is aware that not everyone will be able to get their Gousto box straight into the fridge as soon as it's delivered, so they make sure all the ingredients that need to be kept cool are stored safely in ice bags.
There’s only so long these ice bags will be effective, however, and you will really need to get the box unpacked into the fridge within the first 12 hours.

Joe's Feel Good Fuel Review
Fitness favourite and TV personality Joe Wicks has launched Joe's Feel Good Fuel - a collection of recipes in collaboration with Gousto designed to make your dinners delicious and healthier.
We were lucky enough to try four of the recipes, and our standout favourite was the chicken grain bowl with zingy green cashew sauce. The bulgar wheat was a great swap for carbs like pasta or rice and the sauce was really tasty (even if we forgot to put the coriander in it - sorry Joe!).
This Joe Wicks and Gousto collaboration is not one to miss if you're looking to try something different that's good for your body as well as thoroughly enjoyable to eat.
As a lunchtime salad, each recipe takes a bit too long to make if you're busy or on a break but if you have the time, Joe's Feel Good Fuel offers a variety of yummy cost-effective feasts.
Overall, the range showcases simple ways to make your meals healthier without abandoning flavour - exactly what Joe promises it will do.
