Lupe Pure Cordless Vacuum review: what is it and is it worth the money?

FINDING a good vacuum cleaner at a good price is one of life's greatest challenges - especially if you want to skip the pesky, annoying wires and go cordless.

Lupe is finally here to change that with their super swanky, high-tech Pure Cordless Vacuum - but at £499, is it worth the pretty pennies?

Everyone knows the pain of lugging a bulky vacuum around, getting tangled in the wires that don't quite reach the length you'd like.

Not only that, but they come with endless attachments that get lost, or don't do the job - and most vacuums are too heavy to hold, even with attachments, making cleaning the ceiling or stairs just impossible.

But Lupe has promised to transform that, with a state-of-the-art battery-operated cordless vacuum that is apparently the UK's most recyclable vacuum.

We tested it out to see how simple it was to use — and whether the self-proclaimed innovative home-tech was worth the cash.

Pros

  • Cordless
  • Easy to assemble
  • Simple to use
  • Super fast battery charge
  • Looks great

Cons

  • Noisy
  • Cord is short
  • Drum isn't easy to empty
  • A bit heavy to lift when doing ceilings

Lupe Pure Cordless Vacuum: Quick Summary

We'll be honest, when we first received the Lupe Pure Cordless Vacuum, we were really excited (sad, right?) — we'd heard great things and were looking forward to ditching our clunky old vacuum, with its tangled wires and dodgy attachments.

The Lupe was pretty straightforward to put together — you pop the chunky battery into its main body, then add the handle that cleverly holds your two, albeit multi-use, attachments.

You have to charge the battery fully before use — which felt odd — but it only took around two hours to fully charge for 60 minutes of battery life. Then press the 'Power' button, and away you go.

We used the button that looked like a minus sign, as that was more eco-friendly, but it is advised that you can use the plus button for dirtier places that deserve more attention. The vacuum brush on the base never needs adjusting as it adjusts automatically to the area or room you're in, depending on whether it's carpeted or tiled — pretty neat.

We won't lie, as soon as we started using the vacuum, we were taken aback at how loud it was, even on the lower, eco-friendly setting. Then we ran over a plug and sucked up part of our rug.

Usually, when we're vacuuming, we're a little lax with items that are on the floor and find the hoover just rolls over the top. Not with this one — it's pretty powerful and just keeps sucking.

Luckily, once we'd realised, we clicked the power button and it shut down immediately. Then, there was a simple unlocking device on the base to separate the head, and it was so easy to remove the plug and rug before putting it back together.

The vacuum runs for 60 minutes, and it felt like our home had been deep-cleaned in no time — it was super flexible and really fast.

When it comes to emptying it, you simply press a button and the back pops out. Then you slide it open with another switch and it opens up. We found emptying the circular drum really tricky though, as all of the dust got stuck at the top, and there was no way to get it out except getting dirty with our hands or using a long device.

In all, we loved the Lupe Pure. It's a bit tricky to empty, and a little too loud, but our flat looked like it had been deep-cleaned. It was a little heavy to hold up to the ceiling, and the cord didn't stretch a huge distance, but we found ourselves vacuuming every day as it was such a pleasure to use.

Is it worth the money? Yes, we think it is! Our flat looks cleaner than ever, and it makes vacuuming much less of a chore not having to constantly plug in and out wired vacuums.

Unboxing and First Impressions

The Lupe Pure came in separate parts to be assembled at home, and on first impressions, we were a little worried about how easy it was going to be to put together.

We needn't have worried, though. The instructions were thorough and it was so simple to put together — everything clicked into place, literally.

We were immediately impressed by how light it was and it looked sleek - it's not one you feel compelled to hide away in your cupboard.

The vacuum had a power button, a plus, a minus and a button for brush control, and the instructions were thorough about the use of each button. Before use, we charged the battery up to full, which took around 120 minutes.

On first use, we were a little shocked about the noise the vacuum made — for a high-tech, high-end vacuum, we were expected something sleek and quiet. But we soon got used to it, and when using the Eco Setting (press power, then the minus button) it was a little quieter.

The Pure was a total pleasure to use. It felt so light and fast and we sped around our entire flat, which is a plus since the battery charge only lasts 60 minutes. That could be tricky if you live in a multi-storey home with more rooms than our two-bed flat.

The vacuum head was flexible, and took corners and tricky-to-reach places well — plus, it's designed to not need any fiddling around with when moving from tiles to carpet, as it's intelligent enough to sense a difference in materials.

The two Pure Cordless attachments provided fit perfectly onto the main shaft of the vacuum. One is an extender, which provides the option of having a soft, bristled end, and the other is a wider, fan-like attachment with stiffer bristles, which is perfect for tricky-to-clean carpeted areas with lots of debris.

However, on our first use we were stunned by the power of the vacuum and it soon sucked up a plug and part of our rug. Luckily, the head is very easy to take apart and prise out (you need a house key, and you simply turn a cog to open and close it), so we would recommend being careful with any items on the floor as this vacuum is pretty powerful.

We think it's worth noting that the Lupe Pure Cordless is made by a start-up created by a former Dyson engineer, so you know it's going to be high-tech, and its key features and functions are going to be pretty powerful.

Battery life: We found that the battery took up to two hours to charge, and it lasted 60 minutes. The vacuum is super fast though, so it was more than enough time to thoroughly deep-clean our flat and stairs.

Portable: The Lupe Pure is entirely cordless, meaning it is is very easy to transport around the home, as well as up and down the stairs. When it comes to cleaning stairs or ceilings, the main drum of the vacuum can detach from the guiding shaft with a click of a button to make it even easier and lighter to transport.

Power modes: The vacuum comes with four buttons - including a power button and a plus and minus button. The plus (+) button is for a more intense clean, and the minus button (-) is an eco setting to ensure your vacuuming time is longer-lasting and more environmentally conscious.

Washable HEPA filter: Say goodbye to vacuum bags and tricky to empty drums — the Pure comes with a premium washable HEPA filter which can simply be detached and rinsed when emptying the hoover drum. It boasts the ability to pick up 99.99% of all fine dusts and allergens, too.

Lupe Pure Cordless Eco Credentials

We were really impressed to discover the the Lupe Pure has some seriously admirable eco credentials.

Due to the fact that its creator became disillusioned with the amount of waste a vacuum can bring when a part breaks and can't be replaced, resulting in it being thrown into landfill, the Pure was created to be fully recyclable.

It's crafted from thicker, durable, recyclable plastic, which can be completely taken apart, recycled and replaced in the event that a part breaks.

The Pure has been designed to have a much longer shelf-life than typical household appliances. The company is entirely carbon neutral, too.

Looks great, and works great!

In short, yes! In our opinion, we think the Lupe Pure Cordless is worth it.

At £499, it's certainly not the cheapest vacuum out there but it's a fantastic investment — and one that is both state-of -the-art and eco-conscious.
