THE only way to find out if social media was telling the truth about whether frizz-eliminating hair straighteners exist was to do a Dyson Corrale review.

The cordless hair straighteners promise a smooth finish using technology that is unique to Dyson.

But there's a slight catch. The Corrale cost a hefty £399.99. So is the viral straightener worth the price tag?

Overall rating: 4/5

Pros

  • Cordless
  • Low heat protects from hair damage
  • Uses technology that's unique to Dyson

Cons

  • Dyson Corrale Straightener/Styler, $499.99 from Dyson -
  • When I took the Dyson Corrale out of the box, the first thing I noticed was how substantial it looked. It had solid plates that looked like they were going to easily grip and smooth my hair.

There are three colours, but I was testing out the classic black nickel/fuchsia version which is Dyson hair tools' most distinctive edition.

It came with a charging dock, which the manual informed me gave 30 minutes of charge, a cord for longer styling time, an auto shut off and safety lock button on the side of the tool so I wouldn't burn my house down, plus a feature that allows you to plug in your straighteners wherever you are in the world.

    Dyson Corrale review: performance

These hair straighteners were very good. They glided easily over my strands, and I didn't need to repeat the process over and over to get dead straight hair.

I found the cordless element handy, as it meant I could style my hair wherever I felt like it. Even though they weren't plugged in, it didn't affect the efficacy, making them perfect for travel.

They were a little thick for easily curling my short hair if you're usually someone who likes to curl with a straightener but may work better if you have longer hair. Beachy waves worked a treat though.

One thing I noticed specifically was how well it regulated the temperature. Using the OLED screen on the side of the tool, you can set the temperature and then it regulates the heat, checking the temperature 100 times a second so the temperature never exceeds your setting. Even though I use a heat protectant (and so should you!) I still felt that this was giving my hair that extra level of protection from damage.

The plates didn't snag on my hair and none of my strands fell out from between the plates as I was straightening which made the experience a lot simpler and quicker.

I'm sold. The Dyson Corrale has quickly become my go-to hair tool.

It's easy to use, as the corded design makes it straightforward to twist, curl and wave to your heart's content, as well as no annoying tangles or friction.

And, of course, it's super portable.

The biggest selling point is the flexible plates, which not only help to style your hair easily and quickly but also to create looks with noticeably less damage in the long run.

I'm converted, and if you're looking for a multi-purpose tool, the Dyson Corrale is worth the cash.

Does the Dyson Corrale damage hair?

The Corrale is designed to eventually spread out heat throughout its flexible plates, allowing for less direct heat on your hair.

All straighteners will damage hair somehow, but the Corrale is designed to lessen the impact.

How long does the Dyson straightener last?

On a full charge, you can expect to get 30 minutes of use out of the Corrale when using cordless - enough for most people to do their hair.

This is on the highest heat; if you lower the heat then it'll last slightly longer.

When plugged in, you'll be able to use them until you turn them off just like a regular non-cordless straightener.

Is the Dyson straightener better than ghds?

That's a personal choice, but on balance, the Dyson's are equal to ghd. However, ghd has several different designs for different kinds of hair.

The Corrale looks to straighten your hair quickly and with less damage, but ghd may be better for those looking for more variation in plate size.

Can you use the Dyson Corrale on wet hair?

You should never use straighteners on wet hair (even the Corrale) because it'll lead to breakage.

If you're looking for a wet-to-dry styler, then the Airwrap is for you.

Can the Dyson Corrale curl hair?

Like all straighteners, you can use the Corrale to curl hair. Find out how here.
