Shark HZ500UK Anti Hair Wrap Corded Allergy Vacuum Cleaner review
SHARK'S new Anti Hair Wrap Corded Allergy Vacuum Cleaner is perfect for those looking for an intense clean from their vacuum cleaner.
The HZ500UK Anti Hair Wrap Corded Allergy Vacuum Cleaner is packed with smart features, so we put it through it's paces.
The Shark HZ500UK Anti Hair Wrap Corded Allergy Vacuum Cleaner is currently , a similar price for the Dyson V7, or .
But it is the one for you? We run through the wins and losses for the Shark HZ500UK.
Anti-Wrap Technology
As anyone with long hair knows, modern vacuum cleaners with spinning rollers can be a nightmare for collecting hair, which can quickly gather into a tight tangle around the roller and be a pain to remove.
Shark's Anti-Wrap technology looks to make this a problem of the past, and so far, we're pretty impressed.
A feature on many of their new vacuums, Shark's Anti-Wrap technology gathers hair at the base of the vacuum, allowing it to be drawn straight into the cylinder.
We were pretty impressed with this, and since we started testing the HZ500UK, there's been no need for fiddly cutting away, or detangling.
In our other Shark reviews, we've found that you'll eventually have to break out the scissors to free up your roller, but you'll be doing it much less frequently than you would be with another brand.
Duo Clean
Shark's HZ500UK includes Duo Clean Technology, which aims to make easy work of different surfaces as you glide from carpets, to hard floors.
The floorhead has powerful suction and two motorised brush rolls, which allows you to easily move between different rooms without the need to swap for different attachments.
The bristle brush cleans deep into carpets, whilst the soft front brush draws in debris and lifts stuck-on dust from hard floors.
The combination of the two also leads to a deeper clean which was instantly noticeable, as rugs and carpets looked cleaner and brighter.
The only downside to this is that the suction and roller action is so strong it can be difficult to manouvere the vacuum backwards or lift it away from the floor.
Long Cord and Attachments
The HZ500UK has a huge 10m cord, which we didn't need to switch from socket-to-socket much during testing.
This made it less of a nuisance than your standard corded vacuum when switching rooms, but the fact it was corded means you get impressive suction; which is definitely a win in our eyes.
The swivel steering makes it easy to navigate furniture and tight corners, and we found the LED headlights in the floorhead makes easy work of hard-to-see areas.
It comes with three attachments, which we found made easy work of trciky jobs, such as cleaning the sofa, tight corners, and dusting in hard to reach areas.
As the HZ500UK can easily be split up into a smaller handheld vacuum, it meant we could seamlessly switch to furniture. Combined with the combination floor nozzle, it made our sofa look as good as new, whereas the dusting brush and crevice nozzle were easy to use for hard to reach areas such as high shelves and skirtings boards.
Flexology
Flexology is a handy feature, but we found slightly unnerving we first used it.
The Flexology technology means the vacuum stand can bend, allowing you to each easily under furniture, as we as for easy, compact storage.
The stand bends in the middle, allowing you to lower the body towards the ground, but the smart feature takes a bit of of getting used to, as we were worried it may be bending the wrong way; but we can assure you it's not, go with it!
Open Face
The Shark HZ500UK's Open Face means it's easy to see what you're doing; and we also enjoyed the lack of bags; one thing we always forget to buy.
The 0.3 litre dustbin was easy to empty and replace, meaning we had to spend less time cleaning.
Anti Allergy and Pets
The HZ500UK is recommend for those with allergies, and we can see why.
It boasts a HEPA filter which "traps small particles and pet dander, making it excellent for allergy sufferers".
Combined with the DuoClean technology, we found that the majority of dust and pet hair was gone.
The overall deeper clean meant we were left with a room that not only looked clean, but smelt and felt cleaner too.
There was a noticeably fresher feeling following after our test, and that's not due to a previous lack of effort on our our part.
Shark HZ500UK: The verdict
Overall, we were impressed with the Shark HZ500UK, a vacuum that does what it says on the tin, and very well.
Compared to the older cordless vacuum we had been using, the Shark made the flat look it had been professionally cleaned.
We noticed an immediate difference on the carpet which looked instantly brighter, and the sofa got a new lease of life.
It's easy and quick to use too, thanks to a flexible stick, swivel head, long cord and easily-changed attachments.
Together these mean that the cleaning is done easily, quickly with minimal effort; less unplugging, stopping to charge, or fiddly swapping.
It feels like it's been designed by someone knows what we want, as it made cleaning much easier, faster and more efficient.
Priced alongside Dyson's V7 Model, the Shark's HZ500UK is a worthy competitor, and well worth your cash.
Ultimately the most impressive feature was that our room physically felt, smelt and looked miles cleaner after just one use; what you would expect a vacuum to do, but the Shark really performs.
For us, the powerful suction is one of it's main selling points, and whilst we thought that a corded vacuum would prove a pain, the colossal length on the 10m cord means we didn't even bat an eye.
