Leanna also explains that the SPF in makeup formulas isn’t always enough, but can be a nice addition as you reapply throughout the day.
“SPF in cosmetics is there to give us a little extra protection, but don’t rely on it as your sole source of sun protection,” she says.
“The formulas are often thinner and don’t always allow for even coverage, plus you will typically apply less product than you need to sufficiently protect your skin.”
Leanna recommends starting the day with a teaspoon-sized amount of broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF30 to your face after your morning skincare routine and allowing it to settle for at least 10 minutes.

“Then apply your primer, foundation or other cosmetics.”
SPF needs to be topped up regularly, especially if you’re outdoors for long periods.

Whether you’re after a budget-friendly staple or a high-performance multitasker, these expert-recommended face sunscreens ensure you can keep your skin safe from harmful rays without sacrificing your makeup look.
