How we tested the mattress
I spent four months snoozing away on the Simba Earth, before the APEX we had the Simba Pro so we had a pretty good comparison going from one Simba product to another. My main focus factors for testing were comfort, support, design, and sleep statistic changes using the Oura Ring.
The Oura Ring tracks statistics like total sleep, efficiency, restfulness, REM sleep, deep sleep, latency, and timing. Other statistics include lowest heart rate, breathing regularity and average oxygen saturation.
Simba Earth APEX review: quick summary
First impressions? It’s incredibly comfortable—an absolute dream to sleep on. However, I didn’t notice a significant improvement in sleep quality over the Pro.
If you already have a Simba mattress, you might want to stick with it until it’s worn out, especially considering the APEX comes with a pretty steep price tag.
Now, if you’re thinking of upgrading from another brand and the idea of a cashmere and mohair layer generates excitement within, keep reading.
If this is your first foray into luxury mattresses and you’re ready to get serious (and a bit bougie) about sleep, then the Simba Earth APEX might just be the one for you.

Unboxing and First Impressions
Having had two Simba mattresses previously, I was surprised to see that this new top-end mattress didn’t come in the same chic box vacuum-packed and rolled.
This came in a clear plastic protector that I found handy for packing up our old mattress, ready to transport to a family member. The Simba website boasts VIP Delivery and I will say that they did deliver it to a room of our choosing and navigated our steep staircase and curious dog gracefully.
Some might argue that would be the minimum you would expect from a mattress of this price though.
One perk of this is that the Apex was ready to go right out of the box—no wait to ‘inflate’ policy like most rolled mattresses that Simba offers.
The design is a real departure from other Simba mattresses too, featuring a beautiful champagne gold cover made from wool and viscose, giving it a silky soft feel and a great first impression.
It’s also dimpled with buttons, unlike the flat surface of the Pro, and everything about it whispers quality and luxury.
The Simba Pro vs. APEX: What's the difference between the two mattresses?
Metric | PRO | APEX |
Springs | 5,000 | 5,750 |
Depth | 28cm | 30cm |
Layers | 8 | 8 (including silk, mohair and cashmere layers) |
Comfort Spring Layers | 2 | 2 |
Base | SupportCore | QuadCore |
Top Layer | Wool | Silk, Mohair, and Cashmere |
The Simba APEX takes a new and fresh approach to traditional mattress springs with its QuadCore technology. The springs are grouped into sets of four, which helps minimise the disruption you feel when your partner gets up for a midnight bathroom break.
While I wasn't brave enough to try the classic "bounce on the mattress with a glass of red wine" test you see in ads, I did find that most nights, I didn’t even notice my significant other getting up. This clever spring isolation does contribute to a more peaceful night's sleep.
Simba Earth APEX Mattress review: performance
A great litmus test I use for comfort is, "Will my dog sleep on it?" Some of you might gasp at the idea of letting a dog nap on a £3,000 mattress, but it’s his home too, and nothing is off limits.
He rules the house with an iron paw. Transitioning from the Pro to the APEX, I immediately noticed our luxury-loving Labrador napping at the end of the bed most days, whereas he was strictly a sofa snoozer before.
To add some context, I should mention that my dog waits outside to have his paws wiped because he doesn't like dirt in the house so that should give you an indication of his standards.
