What to wear with wide-leg trousers
WIDE leg jeans started to make their way into our wardrobe, and everyday outfits, over the last few years, so much so, that they are a failsafe staple I rely on.
Wide-leg trousers have replaced my skinny jeans, though I still alternate between my straight-leg jeans now and then.
Wide-leg trousers, whether it's leather trousers, tailored designs, linen trousers, or denim, are woven into our wardrobe for almost any occasion because they are instantly flattering for all body shapes.
Wide-leg designs cinch in your waist (especially if you opt for a high-waisted style to elongate the legs), before flaring out in a straight leg, which means the material skims past the legs instead of hugging them and gives the illusion of slimmer pins underneath.
If you are running out of styling inspiration to wear wide-leg trousers, or want to include the look in your everyday wardrobe, we have some ideas to help you do so.
From a silk shirt and heels to a waistcoat and pumps, even trainers and a classic t-shirt, there are plenty of looks to take you from day to night, from weekend brunch to work to date night drinks.

There are plenty of ways to make wide-leg trousers look stylish and evening-appropriate for a night out, whether it's to a bar with friends or making your way to the dancefloor to pull shapes for hours on end.
In the winter months, I prefer a textured velvet wide-leg trouser paired with a fun feathered crop top, or a sequin number, and heels.
The Mango heels are giving major Amina Muaddi vibes but for a fraction of the price, and dazzling accessories to match.
I may even pair velvet wide-leg trousers with a velvet top, whether it is cropped, or a cami, to give the illusion I am wearing a jumpsuit.
In the summer months, I may opt for a silky pair of trousers, with a lightweight corset top, cami, or sequin crop once again.

A wide-leg trouser can be worn with a waistcoat for almost any occasion, for a shopping spree, brunch dates with friends in the summer, the office, even to the races, or as a wedding guest - providing it's not a white suit.
The versatile look means you can mix and match, or wear the full matching co-ord set
Last year I lived in a three-piece pinstripe suit, which comprised of wide-leg trousers, a matching waistcoat and a blazer, I wore to a friend's wedding reception, the races, to work and for summer evenings out.
I'd often wear the suit altogether, though I would also pair the wide-leg trousers with a plain cami or t-shirt, or wear the waistcoat with a denim midi skirt too, so I would strongly recommend this three-piece set from M&S to wear on rotation for the spring and summer months.

If you are looking for an everyday, chic outfit that is also comfortable then a pair of wide-leg trousers is your best friend.
For a work-appropriate look, opt for black, grey, or camel-coloured wide-leg trousers, and a smart tailored pair with a high waist, pin tuck detail at the thigh, and even a pleat down the front so it has more of a structured shape.
They look great paired with a crisp white shirt and plenty of stacked gold jewellery.
Opt for ballet pumps, which are hugely popular right now and a smart alternative to trainers for the workplace, though we would also style with a pair of Veja trainers, or kitten heel slingbacks too.

Wide-leg trousers can complement any look, and occasion, it all depends on how you style it.
Pairing wide-leg trousers with an oversized blazer can either be a winning formula for an off-duty look or a more polished evening outfit.
Wear wide-leg trousers with an oversized blazer in the same colourway, a crisp white t-shirt and trainers, for an everyday formal look.
In the evening, ditch the layering item underneath for a beaded or lace top, perhaps even a plunge bodysuit, size up on the blazer and cinch in a belt around the waist instead of doing the blazer up, which will create a flattering hourglass frame no matter your body shape.
I would complete this look with a pair of pointed-toe heels, strappy heeled sandals, or boots, and accessorise to the nines for that old money aesthetic.

If you are looking for a low-key, on-trend look to wear when out and about this is the formula you need.
Opt for wide-leg trousers in the form of jeans, which can be any colourway, a T-shirt, or a vest top if it's the warmer months, layered with a leather jacket and trainers.
It's cool, with minimal effort but maximum effect, and a go-to ensemble you can interchange with other pieces depending on the weather, even throw in a hoodie or knitwear if it's cold outside.
It's one look to repeat day after day.

If you are looking for a casual look, but more polished than wearing wide-leg trousers with a t-shirt and leather jacket, this may be the ensemble to get on board.
Rich girl cardigans are the latest trend to weave into your everyday wardrobe, and it's easy enough to do.
Of course, you can opt for a shacket, or cotton cardigan, instead of the Chanel-inspired version, and pair it with trainers, or pumps, instead of heeled boots.
Looking for a smart finish? Pair with wide-leg leather trousers rather than jeans. The weighty fabric makes the straight leg fit fall perfectly on the legs.
