FLATTERING, comfortable and versatile: the best flared leggings are a wardrobe staple you can always rely on.

If you're looking for some variation from your usual leggings, a flared pair will make any ensemble look more stylish; whether for yoga, casual outings or even a night on the town.

Fitting tight on the thighs and tapering down to a wide leg, a flared silhouette can effortlessly balance your proportions and look instantly elevated with a blazer – seamlessly transitioning from gym sessions to brunch dates with ease.

With so many options out there though, it can be hard to find the perfect pair, but fear not: we've put a selection to the test to decide which ones are worth snapping up right now.

Best flared leggings at a glance:

M&S Collection Jersey Elasticated Waist Flared Trousers

Pros: Flattering, smart, good value, ideal for smart-casual days

Cons: Waistband can get twisted

Rating: 5/5

The thicker fabric of these M&S leggings makes them perfect for wearing out rather than for exercise – and you can't argue with the price.

The waistband felt like it held my tummy in securely, but was still really comfortable. The flare is flattering and balances out the hips without having too much extra fabric sagging round the waist.

Pros: Soft, lightweight, comfortable, no front seam, flattering, second-skin feel

Cons: Not for you if you want more hold

Rating: 5/5

My first impression of these leggings was how soft and lightweight they are. They look tiny at first, but it wasn't an effort to get into them at all, as they're really stretchy.

The hold is quite subtle but I still felt nicely smoothed. Wearing them all day, I couldn't help but marvel at how comfy they are – plus the lining feels super soft and kind on the skin.

I was on my period while trying them and would 100% recommend them for that, as the hold on the stomach is perfect: gently supportive but not too tight.

Another plus was how flattering they were around the crotch area, with no camel toe in sight or bagginess that I normally get with other leggings. The flare starts gently at the knee which I found to be really flattering and a great silhouette for me.

Because of how comfortable and lightweight they are, they're probably best suited to sofa days or light exercises like walking or yoga – rather than any activity where you want a bit more hold.

Overall, they're the kind of leggings that feel like a second skin. And little details like the product tag which is made from seed paper and plantable just make TALA feel that bit more special.

Love them – one of my fave pairs!

TALA DayFlex Wrap High Waisted Flared Yoga Pant

Pros: Choice of two leg lengths, hidden pocket for keys, wrap waist looks elevated

Cons: Quite see-through

Rating: 4/5

I've heard great things about these TALA leggings so I couldn't wait to try them out myself. These yoga pants feel soft and smooth and have a nice thickness to them: which is exactly what I'd want from a yoga pant.

I found them super flattering and loved the smoothing effect they gave on my legs.

Pros: Sleek matte finish, choice of colours, comfortable, good value

Cons: Slightly too long for me

Rating: 4/5

I adore the matte finish of these leggings: it makes them look so smooth and flawless. Unfortunately, they're a bit too long for my frame as I'm petite, but I could get away with them not dragging on the floor when I wore them out with a pair of wedge trainers.

Pros: Soft, lightweight, sustainable fabric, draped fit, comfortable waistband

Cons: Come up big

Rating: 4/5

I love the draped fit of these Palazzo pants - they're a winner if you want something that floats down from your hips to a flare rather than being fitted on the thigh.

Fabric-wise, they're incredibly soft and lightweight. The bamboo and cotton blend honestly feels so good on the skin: like air!

), Fabric: 8% Bamboo Viscose, 28% Organic Cotton, 4% Elastane

Lululemon Groove Super-High-Rise Flared Pant Nulu

Pros: Four-way stretch, soft, choice of colours, statement flare, super high waist

Cons: Expensive

Rating: 3/5

First up, the chocolate brown hue of these leggings is just: chef's kiss. It makes a nice difference from black, while still being dark and looking ultra chic.

Pros: Statement flare, bold design, flattering fit

Cons: Too long, polyester

Rating: 3/5

Sporty Spice, eat your heart out.

I love the vibrant red of these flared leggings and the retro stripe, but somehow the fabric isn't how I imagined: I thought it would be a soft jersey (my fault for not checking the fabric composition) but it's actually a thick polyester that's pretty scratchy and unappealing.

Pros: Not too long, soft plissé fabric

Cons: No hold, very thin, wishy-washy colour, waistband isn't shaping

Rating: 2/5

Unfortunately, this was another Boohoo pair that missed the mark for me.

I chose them as I loved what looked like a lilac hue on the model image, but in person, they were a lot more dull and grey-toned – although to be fair, I realised after that Boohoo describes them as grey, so that's on me.

  • How much do the best flared leggings cost?

Prices vary a lot between brands, so it really all depends on what you're looking for and how much you want to spend.

For example, flared leggings with more technical, workout-based features such as moisture-wicking fabrics and four-way stretch will be more expensive – but you can still find some good quality value flared leggings for around the £20 mark.

To give you an idea, in this review, the came in at £108 while the was just £13.
