Mob wife aesthetic: Searches are up 231% for Tiktok’s latest trend, here’s how to get the look
MOB wife aesthetic is the latest "it" trend to emerge from Tiktok, and it's a stark contrast to the former "clean girl" or "quiet luxury" trends we saw last year.
The 'Mob Wife aesthetic' is everything you expect and more, its decadent fabrics, including fur - though faux fur is also acceptable - red lipstick, and gold jewellery, think expensive and proud of it.
The terms "mob wife" and "mob wife aesthetic" are the trending hashtags on TikTok, with both being mentioned over 50 million times on the social media platform.
The mob wife aesthetic is all about maximalism, with influence drawn from The Sopranos mafia wife Carmella Soprano, and Adriana La Cerva from the show, as well as Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface.
But IRL fashion and beauty buffs are taking inspiration from the Kardashian/Jenner, particularly Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Jenner when laden in leopard print, with their hair styled in voluminous waves.
Celebs including Dua Lipa, Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid and Rita Ora have also successfully pulled off the look.

While the mob wife trend is inspired by - after all, this trend is not only coming to fruition now but has origins in the 1920s American mafia era.
Speaking about the resurgence of the mob wife trend, a spokesperson from Depop shared: "While the ‘clean girl’ aesthetic became a defining social media trend of 2023, we’re starting to see fatigue with the minimalist trends that kicked off the 2020s and a desire for maximalist opulence and glamour - for example, searches for leopard print are up +213% this month on Depop.
"Combined with this year being The Sopranos’ 25th anniversary and fuelled by streaming platform releases, we’re seeing Gen-Z audiences taking an interest in Italian mob/mafia stories from the 70s and 80s that are being retold for a generation that did not experience it.
"We often see younger audiences drawn to classic shows with timeless fashion that are easily replicable today, so it is no surprise that the women of The Sopranos, Carmela Soprano and Adriana, are becoming fashion inspirations in 2024."
While heeled boots have previously been deemed "cheugy" - the meaning of too try hard and not trendy - Depop has found they are making a comeback with heeled leather boots soaring 15% month on month, alongside faux fur coats, though leopard and cheetah prints are the most popular with up to a 213% increase.
While maxi, maxi and midi skirts and dresses have all we have been living in in recent years, turns out mini is back with a 26% increase month on month.
