The Rev Canon Paul Williams used the traditional stocking-filler in his sermon.

Asking if anyone knew how to separate the segments, he stated: “You have to tap it and unwrap it.”

Listening via speakers, hundreds of well-wishers gathering outside the Church of St Mary Magdalene heard him tell Louis: “Just drop it” — followed by a loud bang as the treat slammed into the floor.

Earlier, when the clergyman asked if the children in church had received any sweets for Christmas, Louis was heard happily answering loudly: “Marshmallows”.

Louis was later seen clutching a choccy orange, a Cadbury’s selection box and chocolate Santa.

The crowds were believed to be the biggest for years with many fans saying they wanted to show support for the King and Princess of Wales over their cancer battles.

Kate, 42, was handed around a dozen bouquets and had to enlist help from aides to carry her haul back to Sandringham.

She was also handed several Get Well Soon cards and seen laughing with children and their parents.
