Prince Harry’s bid to paint Camilla as ‘wicked stepmother’ have backfired – the UK isn’t buying it, says royal expert

The documentary discusses the suggestion that Camilla and Charles leaked stories to the press to improve her image

PRINCE Harry has been accused of portraying Queen Camilla as the “wicked stepmother” of the Windsor family.

A new Channel 4 documentary features royal experts who dismiss his suggestions she had a hand in leaking stories to the press to boost her own image.

Her pal Petronella Wyatt claims in Queen Camilla: The Wicked Stepmother? his attempts to attack her had backfired.

She says in the programme: “I’m not sure Harry realised how incendiary it was. The whole country seemed to be taking sides.

“I don’t think Harry thinks things through. I think it’s his nature just to press the nuclear button.

“Harry and Camilla’s positions within the Royal Family have virtually reversed. Camilla used to be the hated outcast, now it’s Harry and Camilla’s seen with affection.

"He has to move on from casting Camilla as the wicked stepmother.”

The documentary, on November 24, discusses the suggestion that Camilla and Charles leaked stories to improve her image.

US-based Harry made the claims in his autobiography Spare and in ­interviews to promote it.

But even Andrew Morton, who wrote the bombshell biography of Harry’s late mother Diana, dismissed the notion.

And Jennie Bond, BBC royal correspondent from 1989 to 2003, also laughed off the idea.

She said: “I wrote to Camilla once and she wrote back a lovely letter but she said ‘I’m so sorry but I have no interest in cultivating a special ­relationship with any particular journalist.’”
