TO be given so much medical detail in bulletins about two members of the Royal Family on the same day is unprecedented.

This is a major change in Palace protocol and shows how different things are now under the new King.

The media were never given much detail when Queen Elizabeth was admitted to hospital and virtually nothing about Prince Philip.

Thankfully both the King and the Princess of Wales will both make a full recovery.

The last time I remember Prince Charles being in hospital was when he broke his arm playing polo.

I photographed him leaving Cirencester hospital with Diana.

Before that was more than 40 years ago in Florida when he was whisked into hospital for treatment for dehydration after playing polo in the Florida sunshine.

Not bad for a man of 75.

It is typical of the man that even though the King is having treatment for his enlarged prostate his main concern is with men of a certain age to get their prostate checked regularly.

And it came as a great surprise to hear the Princess of Wales will be in hospital for up to two weeks.

I last photographed her at Christmas as she, William and their children walked to church at Sandringham.

She was her normal cheerful self, introducing George, Charlotte and Louis to the adoring crowd.

If Catherine was in any pain or discomfort she hid it well as she was all smiles on Christmas Day.

I am sure the London Clinic where she will be for as long as two weeks, recovering from the planned operation she underwent on Tuesday, will have lots of royal visitors.

And her planned return to work date means that the earliest we will see her may be the Easter service at Windsor.

I am certain that every engagement that is cancelled during her convalescence will be rescheduled because the Princess will not want to let her people down.
