King Charles set to become the first monarch to deliver his Christmas message with living tree in background
KING Charles will deliver his Christmas message this year with a living tree in the background — the first monarch to do so.
His Majesty, 75, whose mother Queen Elizabeth II usually gave the address from behind a desk, stands in front of the fir.
In a nod to the environmentalist monarch, it was decorated with sustainable products such as dried oranges, hand-turned wood, brown glass and pine cones.
It will be replanted after the broadcast from Buckingham Palace’s Centre Room, which overlooks the Victoria Memorial.
The message from His Majesty was produced by ITN.
Also in the clip is a pot pourri bowl, believed to have been acquired by George IV, which has a gilt metal cover.
This will be King Charles' second ever Christmas message to the nation.
It is the first since his coronation earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the Princess of Wales met retired mental health nurse Brenda Ford, who volunteers on a programme to help schoolchildren develop new skills in Sussex.
The image was released by Kensington Palace ahead of tonight's ITV1 show Royal Carols: Together at Christmas, which airs at 7.45pm.
