Omid Scobie accused of ‘spewing bulls**t’ over naming of royals in ‘racism’ storm as pair are revealed
The two senior royals attended public engagements last night
OMID Scobie has been branded a “liar” for saying he had nothing to do with the naming of two senior Royals in the Dutch translation of his discredited book.
Princess Kate and Prince William put on a united front last night as they attended the Royal Variety Performance – while King Charles was seen joking that he was “just about” “all right”.
Early Dutch copies of Scobie’s poison-filled Endgame suggested Kate and Charles were the two Royals who had made remarks about the skin colour of Harry and Meghan’s first child, Archie.
Amid a growing backlash against Scobie’s hatchet-job book, a senior Government minister praised the “dignity” and “grace” of Charles and Kate.
And Scobie was blasted for peddling “bulls**t” excuses about how the names were included in the Dutch translation.
Endgame – which has been pilloried by Royal experts – claims that Meghan Markle named the royals she accused of raising concerns over the colour of Archie’s skin in letters to the King.
In the English versions of Endgame, Scobie says UK laws prevent him from naming names.
But in two passages in a translated version in the Netherlands, the legal excuse is missing and King Charles and Princess Kate are named as the royals involved.
Piers Morgan named the royal pair on his TalkTV show on Wednesday night, saying the names were already circulating abroad.
Other media outlets, including the Guardian, New York Times and New York Post also followed suit.
On ITV’s This Morning yesterday, Scobie doubled down and insisted he never named the royals.
He claimed he had “never submitted a book that had their names in it”.
He also denied that the Dutch farce was part of a publicity stunt and said “an investigation” had begun into what happened.
He said: “I had never submitted a book that had their names in it, so I can only talk about my version.
“I wrote and edited the English version of the book with one publisher.
“That then gets licensed to other publishers. I can’t speak Italian, German, French, Dutch or any of the other languages that it’s come out in.”
He also denied he was “Meghan’s mouthpiece” or “cheerleader” and was close to tears as he complained that he had been treated unfairly.
But a furious Piers immediately blasted the claims as “bulls***”, and slammed Scobie a “lickspittle liar”.
He’s also invited the author to come on his show, adding: “How else did the Dutch version get printed with those explosive details?
“He wouldn’t know the truth if it slapped him.”
Piers then wrote: “Must be very frustrating when some random person in the Netherlands decides to insert passages naming and racist-shaming King Charles and the Princess of Wales in your own book, and you have no idea how that happened.”
The TalkTV pundit first revealed Kate and the King as the named royals in his show on Wednesday, but said he didn’t believe “any racist comments were ever made”.
He said: “I’m going to tell you names of the two senior Royals who are named in that Dutch version of this book.
“Because frankly if Dutch people wandering into a book shop can pick it up and see these names, then you British people here who actually pay for the British Royal Family.
“You’re entitled to know too.
“And then we can have a more open debate about this whole farrago.
“Because I don’t believe any racist comments were ever made by any of the Royal Family.
“And until there is actual evidence of those comments being made I will never believe it.
“But now we can start the process of finding out if they ever got uttered, what the context was, and whether there was any racial intent at all.
“Like I say I don’t believe there was. The royals who were named in this book are King Charles and Catherine Princess of Wales.”
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, the Sussexes alleged an unnamed member of the Royal Family spoke about their son’s skin colour – a story which appears to have changed a number of times.
No evidence has ever been produced and Harry subsequently said there was no allegation of “racism”. Instead, they have focussed on “unconscious bias” in the Royal family.
When asked by Jeremy Kyle on TalkTV about the lack of evidence for the claims against the King and the Princess of Wales, security Minister Tom Tugendhat praised the pair.
He said: “Some individual has written some rumour and scuttlebutt that has made various claims about His Majesty the King that are, frankly, completely unproven.
“The King’s done a brilliant job for us, not just in the last year since he’s been King, but he’s been absolutely fantastic for many, many years in arguing in the interests of the British people as Prince of Wales.
“So frankly I see this as just rumour, hearsay and an attempt to disparage somebody who’s served our country with enormous dignity and enormous grace for many many years.”
In their first joint outing since the release of Scobie’s book Kate and William, both 41, arrived together at London’s Royal Albert Hall alongside Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel, following their official meeting yesterday morning.
Glamorous Kate dazzled in an elegant floor-length turquoise gown — completing the look with draping sleeves and jewels around her neck.
The Prince of Wales wore a black formal suit with a bow tie and white shirt.
Neither Royal spoke to a group of around 50 adoring fans as they made the short walk into the historic venue from a chauffeured Range Rover.
Meanwhile, Charles revealed he was “just about” “all right” as he mingled with world leaders during a 48-hour work dash to the Middle East.
The King will deliver an opening address at COP28 today in which he will say “The Earth does not belong to us, we belong to the Earth”.
He warmly talked with UAE’s President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, known as MBZ, discussing climate and “other geo-political issues”.
And was swamped by VIPs and world leaders at a conference at Dubai 2020 Expo.
He was invited by organisers to give an opening speech today thanks to his years of campaigning on environmental issues.
But kicking off the whistle stop trip he was warmly greeted at a Dubai hotel by Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who asked, “How are you?”
The King, a tanned suit, took his seat and said: “I’m all right very much, just about.
“Having had a rather ancient birthday recently recovering from the shock of that.”
He turned 75-years-old just over two weeks ago.
