Will Prince William and Harry wear military uniforms to King Charles’ coronation?

KING Charles III Coronation will feature a lot of pomp and pageantry.

But what will his sons Prince William and Prince Harry wear at the historic event on May 6, 2023?

Will Prince Harry wear military uniform to King Charles' Coronation?

When he attended the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Harry wore formal dress.

As he is no longer a working royal, it was not seen fit for him to wear his military uniform despite his two tours of Afghanistan with the Army.

It is believed that the same will be the case for the Coronation of his father, King Charles III.

He will however be able to wear his military medals.

Harry also has a Golden Jubilee medal as well as a Diamond Jubilee medal, and the Operation Service Medal for Afghanistan ribbon.

Will Prince William wear military uniform to King Charles' coronation?

At the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince William wore his full military uniform - and is expected to do so again for the Coronation.

William wore the RAF No 1 uniform with the Garter Sash with RAF Pilot Wings and the Garter Star Chest Order.

At Trooping the Colour, Prince William wore the uniform of Colonel, Irish Guards, Guard of Honour Order.

The uniform was adorned with the Golden Jubilee Medal and the Diamond Jubilee Medal, both of which were given to him by the Queen.

William also wore his RAF Wings, The Most Noble Order of the Garter, and The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle.

In 2008 he was made a Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter.

William was the 1,000th Knight of the Garter to be appointed.

When were Prince William and Harry in the military?

Prince William entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst after leaving university in 2005.

He passed out as an Officer Cadet in December 2006.

He joined the Household Cavalry (Blues and Royals) as a second lieutenant, before being promoted to the rank of lieutenant.

In 2008, Prince William joined the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy, pursuing a career in flying, for which he trained to be a search-and-rescue pilot and later became Flight Lieutenant Wales.

He served in the RAF search and rescue service, operating as a helicopter pilot.

In 2010, he joined C Flight, 22 Squadron at RAF Valley in Anglesey as a search-and-rescue pilot and spent three years in the role.

He took part in 156 search-and-rescue operations and undertook a routine operational deployment to the Falkland Islands.

He also became an operational captain.

Following his operational duties with the armed forces, Prince William later retrained to be an air ambulance pilot and worked for the East Anglian Air Ambulance from March 2015 until July 2017.

Prince Harry served in the armed forces for 10 years and did two tours in Afghanistan.

Prince Harry’s military career began with a 44-week officer cadet training course at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

There he was known as Officer Cadet Wales.

Harry’s two tours in Afghanistan took place from 2007-2008 and 2012-2013.

During his first tour, he served patrol duties in hostile areas and even helped to fend off Taliban insurgents.

Following his first tour in Afghanistan, Prince Harry attended the Defence Helicopter Flying School at RAF Shawbury.

He was promoted to the rank of captain and awarded an Apache Flying Badge.
