Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Emmy nod is ‘farcical’ after they ‘spouted complete untruths’ to Oprah, expert says

MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry's Emmy nod is "farcical" - as they "spouted complete untruths" to Oprah, a royal expert says.

The couple's explosive chat has been nominated for a top gong - after they made a string of bombshell claims about Harry's family.

During the interview, they alleged a senior royal had made racist comments about their son Archie's skin colour - while Meghan claimed Kate made her cry over bridesmaids' dresses.

But commentator Phil Dampier said the Sussexes were encouraged to tell "their truth - rather than the truth."

It comes as:

He told Sun Online: "I think it's farcical.

"We now know Harry and Meghan were allowed to spout a lot of complete untruths and unchecked 'facts' in the interview, and Oprah Winfrey did nothing to query it.

"As a journalistic exercise I thought it was very, very poor.

"It might have been watched by millions and it got a lot of headlines, but it was clearly not journalism.";

The two-hour special aired in March - but months on, it seems likely to hold its place as the TV event of the year.

Harry told Oprah he felt let down by his family - and that he was barely speaking to his brother, describing their relationship now as "space".

He said he loved William "to bits", but admitted he and the future king were "on different paths".

And he claimed his father Charles stopped taking his calls after Megxit and he was financially cut off by the Royal Family last year.

But the most damaging allegation made about the couple related to claims a royal had discussed the colour of Archie's skin before his birth.

Meghan told Oprah the unnamed member of the family had raised “concerns” about "what that would mean or look like".

Winfrey later clarified neither the Queen nor Prince Philip had made the comment.

The fall-out from the chat continues on, months later, with Harry and William reportedly barely speaking.

TV firebrand Piers Morgan claimed the couple made 17 "untrue, exaggerated or unprovable" slurs against the royals - and Mr Dampier said some claims were quickly disproved.

Are these the 17 ‘lies’ Piers Morgan blasted Meghan Markle for telling Oprah about Royal life?

Former Good Morning Britain host Piers stepped down from his role after refusing to apologise to the Duchess

He alleged a total of 17 of the claims made in the interview are either untrue, inflated or impossible to prove.

Here are 17 possible moments he could be referring to...

Disproven:

The royal wedding took place earlier

Archie 'wasn't allowed to be prince'

Meghan 'never looked Harry up online'

The Duchess 'hadn't seen her sister in 20 years'

TV wasn't ever part of the plan

Exaggerated:

Meghan's passport was taken away from her

She was 'silenced' by the royals

Newspapers 'withheld story on her dad to cause maximum harm'

Press created drama over Thomas Markle

Security was taken away

Press team didn't defend the Duchess

She was banned from lunching with pals

She had no training in how to be a royal

Holiday parties with the paps take place at the palace

Unprovable:

Concerns over Archie's skin colour

Meghan was ignored when she asked for help

Kate Middleton made Meghan cry

"I knew we were in trouble from the start when Oprah asked the pair of them to tell their truth, rather than the truth," he said.

"There were a number of claims that were just wrong, including that of a wedding ceremony two days before, which wasn't true at all.

"Oprah just didn't query any of it.

"Quite why it should be nominated for a top award is beyond me.

"It tends to indicate it's simply the woke world in which we live - we've seen it with awards ceremonies increasingly in recent years.

"It's become more about supporting political causes and less about integrity."

Royal were doubtless inflamed after the Duke of Sussex went on to discuss his family in further interviews.

He said he'd been shown "total neglect" for his mental health - and said his father had made him "suffer" during his "nightmare" life as a royal in yet another Oprah production.

The princes met at Kensington Palace for the unveiling of a statue dedicated to their late mother.
