Prince Harry swearing to ‘pretend he’s one of the lads’ is unnecessary as 6th in line to throne, blasts royal expert

PRINCE Harry has been blasted by a royal expert who claims the duke's colourful language in a recent podcast was an "unnecessary" attempt to "prove he's one of the lads".

During the Armchair Expert podcast, Harry spoke candidly about some of his life experiences and wasn't afraid to throw a few swear words in.

Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal commentator, told Sun Online: "Harry’s podcast is hugely unimpressive. After a while, he may find people are uninterested in what he has to say about himself.

"He is 6th in line to the throne. It isn’t necessary for him to swear to pretend he’s one of the lads to make a point.

Richard continued: "He actually isn’t ordinary, he couldn’t have achieved what he has without being a member of the royal family."

Harry swore when he asked Dax about his own experience with drug abuse, which saw his addiction begin in high school.

Prince Harry asked Shepard whether he had "an awareness" of what was fuelling his use of drugs as a younger man.

He then continued: “For you it was your upbringing and everything that happened to you - the trauma, pain and suffering…

“All of a sudden you find yourself doing a s***load of drugs and partying hard.

“Look how many other people do that as well. They wouldn’t have the awareness at the time.

“I certainly wouldn’t have had the awareness when I was going wild.

“It’s like why am I actually doing this? In the moment its like, this is fun. I’m in my 20s - it’s what you’re supposed to do”.

Prince Harry compared life as a royal to Jim Carey's The Truman Show, a 1990s film about a man who unknowingly lives in a reality TV show.

He told Dax Shepherd, the podcast's host: "It's a mix between The Truman Show and living in a zoo."

"You were kind of cast into a movie without being asked," Dax added, to which Harry said: "The biggest issue for me was that being born into it you inherit the risk, you inherit every element of it without choice."

Richard said: "The comparison of royal life to The Truman Show may have some validity as the royal goldfish bowl was always stressful, but why does he not also consider the benefits it brings?

"He could not have helped so many with his charity work if he were not royal. We knew Harry had difficulties with his mental health which he shared with us to the benefit of others.

"Yet although this interview is another example of baring his soul, it actually tells us very little that is new," he added.

Later on in the podcast, Harry and Dax spoke about the importance of ‘listening to your body’ to look for signs of distress - even when you are think you are “cruising”.

He said: “There’s cortisol that’s playing havoc… then the adrenaline part that’s giving you this extra energy.

“Whatever this is inside of me, it’s really helping me. It’s driving me - it’s fuel.

“That’s where the burnout happens because you think ‘this isn’t normal but it feels great because I can get s*** done’.

“But eventually it hits you and it’s like, ‘that’s not sustainable’.”
