A CAR has struck several pedestrians in Tampa, Florida today, with some of the victims said to be children.
Horrifying aerial images of the scene show several backpacks scattered on a footpath.
Emergency services as well as school officials attended the scene this morning.
According to local media, the speeding car struck five people, including three children aged between six to eight years old and two adults in the north Tampa area.
Fox 13 that all five were waiting at a school bus stop around 8am when a vehicle came speeding eastbound on Bougainvillea Avenue.
Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan as "chaotic".
Chief Dugan said: “There are a lot of moving parts. We are piecing everything together.
“Hours ago, they were trick or treating. Now, they’re at the hospital,” he said.
The victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where one child is in critical condition.
The area has since been cordoned off and the driver of the car - who remained at the scene - has been detained, police said.
