The sneaky predator was so discreet even photographer, Ingo Gerlach, nearly missed it as he made his way back to camp in the Masai Mara, Kenya.

The experienced snapper spent ten minutes searching for the male leopard after being tipped off by his guide during the drive home.

Blending almost seamlessly into the background, the leopard remained perfectly still as Ingo captured the rare moment on camera.

The 65-year-old, from Germany, said: "The sun had already disappeared behind the horizon and it was early evening when the driver suddenly stopped the vehicle and murmured 'Chui', which means leopard in Swahili."

He continued: "I stood and stared for a good ten minutes but couldn't find anything.

"The driver tried to explain the position of the leopard to me, and with great effort I finally spotted it."

Looking closely at the image, the leopard can be spotted to the right of the watering hole.

Nestled against rock on the grey terrain, the leopard appear to blend seamlessly into the background before the big cat struts away from his resting spot.

It's not the first time a predator has hidden in plain sight.

In August this year, social media users were flummoxed when a snaked managed to blend into a picture of two stools.

Baffled users struggled to find the coiled snake after a Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers challenged them to spot the serpent at a home in Ninderry, Queensland.
