A FRUSTRATED driver has legally changed his gender to become a female in order to save money on his car insurance.
The 24-year-old Canadian, known only as David, managed to save nearly £640 a year by taking “advantage of a loophole”.
The motorist changed his gender on paper by getting a new birth certificate.
He said: “I am a man, 100 per cent. Legally, I am a woman. I have taken advantage of a loophole.”
In both Canada and the US, male drivers under the age of 25 are normally required to pay more for car insurance than women because they are statistically more likely to get into car accidents.
When David purchased a new Chevrolet Cruze he was was quoted £2,630 – even though he only have had a minor crash and a couple of speeding tickets before.
David asked whether he would have to pay the same amount of money if he was a woman.
He was told £630 less if he was a woman.
So he asked his doctor to write a letter saying that he identified as a woman.
David added:“I was quite shocked, but also relieved. I felt like I beat the system. I felt like I won.”
