Toddler died after ‘mum left her in hot car’ for hours while she went to work
Remington Engler was allegedly left to bake in the car for hours in 26C heat.
A TODDLER died on Thursday after her mum left her alone in a car in the sweltering heatwave — so she could go to work, police said.
Remington Engler was allegedly left to bake in the car for hours in 26C heat while mum Nicole Engler, 38, went to work as a nurse.
The 21-month-old was rushed to hospital but medics were unable to save her.
Engler was arrested on Friday on suspicion of second-degree manslaughter.
She told police in Roseburg, Oregon, she mistakenly believed she had dropped her daughter off at nursery before arriving at work.
Remington was "unconscious and blue" when she arrived at Mercy Medical Center.
Doctors performed CPR but couldn't revive the tot.
Officers continue to investigate the death.
Engler, who is originally from Salt Lake City, remains in custody.
The mum got her nursing degree in 2005 and completed a Master's degree four years later.
The average age of pediatric vehicular heatstroke is 21 months.
In 2014, prosecutors decided not to file criminal charges against an engineer whose daughter died after he forgot she was in the back seat when he arrived at work.
They determined it was a “tragic and unintentional accident.”
