NYPD sergeants union’s firebrand chief Ed Mullins RESIGNS after FBI dramatically raids offices and home in mystery probe

NEW York police union leader Ed Mullins resigned from his position as the sergeants’ union chief on Tuesday, following an FBI raid on his home and office.

The firebrand officer lead the Sergeants Benevolent Association from 2002 until this week, when he resigned at the request of the executive board.

Agents were seen carrying boxes out of the union’s Manhattan headquarters and loading them into a van. 

FBI spokesperson Martin Feely said the bureau also searched Mullins’ home in Port Washington, Long Island.

In a statement, the Sergeants Benevolent Association claimed that the nature of the investigation is unknown to the union.

“The nature and scope of this criminal investigation has yet to be determined.”

“However, it is clear that President Mullins is apparently the target of the federal investigation,” the statement read.

“We have no reason to believe that any other member of the SBA is involved or targeted in this matter,” the union concluded.

Mayor de Blasio was asked to comment, but told the Associated Press he did not have enough information to speak in detail on the raid.

“I think he’s been a divisive voice,” de Blasio said. 

“But that doesn’t cause me to feel anything in this situation because I don’t know what’s happening. All I hear is an FBI raid. I don’t know the specifics, I don’t know who it’s directed at. I want to really hear the details before I comment further.”

Last year, Mullins tweeted of daughter, who was attending a protest over the Minneapolis police killing of

Mullins is currently in the middle of a department disciplinary proceeding that began in September of 2021 but was postponed indefinitely after one of his lawyers suffered a medical emergency.

At this time, it remains unclear when the trial will resume again.

Mullins is also currently suing the NYPD.

He claims that the department tried to silence him by recommending disciplinary actions for incendiary tweets and public statements.

In one incident, Mullins called New York congressional representative Ritchie Torres “a first-class whore.”

And earlier this year, he said that NYPD were “at war” with city hall.
