THE Prince of Wales broke royal protocol as he greeted a well-wisher with a fist bump during a walkabout in Cornwall yesterday.
Prince Charles and Camilla were on their annual three-day tour of Devon and Cornwall when a man in the crowd broke from the traditional greeting and held out his fist.
Despite being momentarily taken aback, the Prince of Wales went along with the well-wisher's greeting much to his own amusement.
After bumping fists with Prince Charles, the man broke into laughter, smiling with the royal.
While there are no obligatory codes of behaviour when meeting a member of the Royal Family, people are expected to observe tradition and greet them with a handshake, neck bow or small curtsy.
When addressing a royal for the first time, the public are expected to use the formal address "Your Royal Highness."
