A MODEST semi-detached house has been dubbed one of the UK's most gorgeous homes - although from the outside looks may be deceiving.

Designer Miffy and her builder husband Gareth Shaw transformed the inside of their three-bed property to be named the BBC's Best House in Town in Cardiff.

Every room in their home is decorated with bold colours, fun prints, and quirky ornaments - seeing the whole place burst with character.

Interior designer Miffy said: "I don't know why I've won to be honest, I just do what I do, but I'm really proud and thankful.

"People have said they think I've won because my house is unique but that's quite a weird thing to hear because surely everybody's house is unique.

She added: "Everything influences me. "If a girl walks past me in Tesco and I spot a handbag or jacket in a nice color or material or we go out for food in a cafe and they've done great lighting, I take note."

Miffy also gets her inspiration from nature too, when she takes her French bulldog 'Tugboat' for walks.

In the couple's living room one wall exposes the brickwork as a feature, paired with luxurious deep blue painted walls. Adding to the rustic feel of the bricks, one alcove has logs slotted in perfectly and buffalo skull on the wall.

The staircase of the property is peppered with pretty frames, all different shapes and styles leading up the stairs to the bedrooms - which are equally stunning.

One of Miffy's key pieces of advice is to be brave when it comes to bold and dark colours. The couple's bedroom is a combination of emerald greens and slate grey, creating atmosphere.

Miffy had actually based the room around the wallpaper she found and went from there.

In the kitchen each chair is mismatched and comes with its own story - either given to them by loved ones or from a charity shop.

Scattered across a teal-painted wall is a selection of plates - purely for aesthetic purposes - and the table is made from scaffolding boards.

Miffy says: "I would describe my style as eclectic, sort of DIY rustic. It’s organic in that I love wood, stone, leather and natural materials like rattan."

"Wool, wood, china, glass, house plants and flowers all add to the softening accessories and furnishings and ensure this home continually looks warm, inviting and comfortable.

"When I think I know what I would like in a room, I have found my influences, I will start making mood boards and initially find different versions of the look I want on Pinterest.

"But I'm more of a grower, things come to me slowly and ideas start growing and changing. "All the rooms have started from different inspirations with the core being that you have to love it."
