Broadgreen Hospital care assistant held for attempted murder ‘after placing bag over head of patient, 79’

A HOSPITAL worker has been arrested on suspiction of the attempted murder of a patient, police say.

The 31-year-old suspect was held tonight after cops were contacted by staff at Broadgreen Hospital in Liverpool.

It is believed the alleged victim was a 79-year-old female patient who has since been transferred to a nursing home in the city.

It is said the man placed a plastic bag over the pensioner's head, before claiming he was playing “peekaboo”.

She was reportedly found covered in bruises by nurses.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that a 31-year-old male care assistant has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident at Broadgreen Hospital.

"Merseyside Police were contacted by staff at the hospital at 7.25pm on Sunday July 22 and an investigation is under way.

"The man has been released on conditional bail until August 17."
