The woodlands near the summer retreat inspired the author and playwright's enchanting stories and settings, including Peter Pan's idyllic Neverland.
Barrie owned the cottage in posh Farnham, Surrey, from 1901 to 1908.
But now estate agent Strutt and Parker is marketing the six-bedroom Lobswood House – part of the larger historic country house that included Barrie’s retreat – for £1.35 million and it says the property retains “great charm and character”.
It is thought the new property name is derived from the character Lob in Barrie’s Dear Brutus.
The retreat was extended in 2015 to provide two extra bedrooms.
The master bedroom boasts glorious views across the rolling gardens and Bourne Wood, where Barrie's friend's sons explored during regular visits from London.
Barrie became known by them as Uncle Jim and their exploits inspired much of his creations. He unofficially adopted the boys after the deaths of their parents.
Waverley Borough Council has placed a plaque on the wall of the Victorian property to recognise its former famous owner. It was previously a hotel and childrens' home.
Current owners Mark and Annabel Jermyn aim to downsize after bringing up their family there, and say the property has given them three decades of wonderful memories.
Barrie was born in Angus, Scotland in 1860.
He was born and educated in Scotland and then moved to London
He died aged 77 in 1937 in the capital.
