Rightmove advert slammed for offering female tenants low rent of £23 for ‘special favours’
The two-bed house was described as a student letting and priced at £100 per month or a reduced rate of £23 a week
RIGHTMOVE has been slammed after an advert appeared on its site offering a lower rent for females if they performed 'special favours'.
The ad for the property in Birmingham offered a room to rent for a reduced price, with the terms of the favours "to be discussed".
The two-bedroom terraced house was described as a student letting and priced at £100 per month or a reduced rate of £23 a week.
It said: "Two bedroom property available to female student... Property is available on a reduced rent for special favours to be discussed."
Posting on Twitter, Lindsay Denton said: "Excuse me @rightmove how can you sanction and post this on your website with such confidence?!"
In response, Rightmove said: "As soon as we became aware of the text in this listing we immediately removed it from the site, as it is obviously unacceptable.
"We have spoken with the agent advertising the property who have confirmed that they’re carrying out a full investigation."
The ad was marketed by StudentTenant.com - a lettings service for students - which said: "It has been brought to our attention that a property has been uploaded by a private landlord to our platform with the view to exploit students.
"This is something that we would categorically never condone, and we are deeply saddened to see this type of offering on our platform.
"We have measures in place to ensure that no contact details are ever passed to a landlord with our prior communication with both parties so students are protected before any property viewing goes ahead."
They added tenants' safety is their "top priority", and they are carrying out an internal review and have reported the ad to the relevant authorities.

Earlier this year, an investigation by The Sun Online uncovered the seedy world of sex for rent ads across the capital.
One pervy landlord offered our reporter a rent-free one bedroom flat in Canary Wharf - if she shared a bed with him twice a week.
The Sun Online contacted men advertising on classified ad site Craigslist and arranged to meet two of them while posing as a prospective tenant in a "desperate" situation.
One, a kitchen top fitter, posted an advert for his swanky £1,800 pad in London's banking district in exchange for "other favours".
The sleazy landlord continued: "Obviously we'll have to share the bed. So we'll sleep together maybe.
"Well maybe cuddling. We'll see what happens.
