The school in Maidenhead, Berks., has pleaded for parents to help buy basic teaching resources, like textbooks, pens and pencils

A CASH-STRAPPED primary school has left parents "in tears" after begging for their help to buy basic teaching materials - and toilet roll.

St Edmund Campion Catholic Primary School in Maidenhead, Berks., sent a desperate email to families with a link to its Amazon 'Wish List' page.

It has 17 essential items it says it cannot afford, including toilet paper, sticky tape, Blu Tack, felt tip pens and textbooks.

The 420-pupil school admitted it may not be able to operate after the next two years.

And its left parents outraged and worried.

Catherine del Campo, whose ten-year-old daughter attends the school, said: "I was shaken and nearly in tears. This is really desperate - the fact they are asking for office supplies and toilet paper.

"As a parent, if the school is begging for toilet paper then it makes you wonder what's next."

The school, which is the constituency Theresa May has represented for 21 years, says it continues to evacuate its finances.

Kate Foreman, the school’s business manager, came up with the idea of a wish list.

She said: "We’re still committed to providing our children with an outstanding education but there’s only so much you can do.

"Financially we’re OK this year, and the next two years will probably be fine but any longer than that is harder to evaluate.
