Mum’s horror in Asda changing room as smartphone pervert films her trying on underwear in changing rooms
The pervert was chased down by furious customers but escaped through a staff exit
A HORRIFIED mum of two caught a man filming her as she tried on underwear in the changing rooms of Asda.
Jade McDaid was trying on bras at the store when she spotted a smartphone hovering over the top of the changing rooms.
The 27-year-old, from Barnsley, South Yorks., was on her weekly shop with her nana Joan and decided to look at the George section of the store, picking up two bras to try on in the changing rooms.
As Mrs McDaid finished trying on the lingerie, she suddenly glanced up to see a hand and a smartphone over the top of one of the two cubicles.
Horrified Mrs McDaid tried to cover up as quick as possible before leaving the changing room to find a member of staff because the area is not manned.
But despite raising the alarm, the pervert was able to escape through a staff exit at the store in Old Mill Lane, Barnsley, with whatever he managed to record.
Mrs McDaid said: “I feel embarrassed and completely violated.
“As I was trying on bras, he would have had full view of my breasts and they let him leave.
“I don’t know what made me look up but it just kind of felt like I was being watched.
“I was just in utter shock. I could not believe it.
“The cubicle is quite high so he would have had to stand on the seat in order to get the phone above.
“I quickly tried to cover myself up before leaving to get a member of staff.
“My nana Joan was the first person I could find and she went off to find someone, as there was no staff around.
“Two other customers came over and I told them not to go in, and what had happened.
“There was about six of us including staff and a security guard waiting for him to come out.
“I felt so humiliated, I could barely look at him.”
The group waited for the man to exit the other cubicle, but he simply hung some trousers on a rack before walking away.
Mrs McDaid realised the same man had been in the underwear section while she was browsing but she did not think anything of it, with Valentine’s day so close.
The security guard at the store began to follow him but Mrs McDaid said he kept his distance.
Another customer, who had been waiting with Mrs McDaid, attempted to stop the man herself before shouting for security, but the man left through a staff exit.
After calling the police, Mrs McDaid was asked to identify the man on CCTV, and realised he had been following her round the store.
It comes days after a pervert was filmed having sex with a drain in east London.
Mrs McDaid said Asda told her the man – who was dressed smartly – was visiting the store from a third party and both his name and company would have been logged when he signed in.
But police said they were unable to read his driving licence plate from the CCTV.
Mrs McDaid, who lives with husband Stuart and their two children, took to Facebook to warn others of her experience with the man still at large.
In a furious Facebook rant, she said she didn’t feel the incident was being taken seriously, but Asda insisted it was conducting a full investigation.
She said: “I feel really let down that the security guard had the chance to stop this man but did nothing.
“Who knows what images or videos he has of me. I was actually buying a swimsuit for my daughter.
“She could have been with me that day and trying something on in that same cubicle.
“It makes me feel sick knowing the fact he could have images of me.
“It is scary to think that this man is still out there. I don’t think I would have been the first person he has tried to film.
“How many more people has he done this to? What other things has he done? This whole thing could have been stopped there and then.”
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Police are investigating a report of voyeurism after being called to an address in Old Mill Lane, Barnsley on Tuesday January 31.
“Anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident number 457 of 31 January.”
An Asda spokesman said: “We take matters of this nature very seriously. We are conducting a full investigation and assisting the police with their enquiries.”
