A CHIPPY is helping out hungry cash-strapped locals with 5p chips - but there's a catch.
The owner of Iestyn's Fish Bar, in Pontypool, Wales, has seen families of five fed for just £12 and offers the deal "to give back" amid a cost of living crisis.
Iestyn Evans' "cheap as chips" sale, which knocks off a whopping £2.95 from the original price, is available for two hours on several randomly selected days per month, but usually on Tuesdays.
And, customers can even take home a portion of battered chips within the deal, which usually cost £3.30.
The 28-year-old said: "We do have a good loyalty base.
"Prices are getting better for us but it's too soon for us to put our prices down – but putting stuff like these little offers in does help.

"It gave everyone a little pick me up – a little bit of a buzz."
The generous 5p bag is provided with any other main food item, whether shoppers opt for a small meal or sizeable battered cod.
Iestyn has since seen hoard of hungry customers queuing outside the much-loved chippy.
"It was very popular for us," he added.

"We've had loads of people coming in since then – mainly people who were a bit gutted that they'd missed out on it. They were like: 'When's the next 5p day?'"
Local hairdresser Kerry Jones, 33, managed to feed her family of five with the incredible sale.
She said: "I thought it was really cool – 5p for chips, you can feed the whole family for the evening."
Fellow happy customer Claudette Blair, 56, said: "It is very good for people who can't afford a good meal.
"It's good for the less fortunate than us."
Meanwhile, Dan Rogers, 29, took home five bags of chips, four battered sausages and a saveloy, which came to just £12.
"It's feeding a family of five. Usually I've come here and it would be about £25 or £26 so it's pretty much half," he told
"It's one of the best chip shops around."
This comes as another UK chippy voted one of the best in England revealed its secret to success - and it's all in the batter.
The award-winning Gipsy Lane Chippery, located on a Leicester high street, has been a fan favourite with hungry locals for nearly 50 years.
Family-run by Danielle and Anton Mappouras, the popular takeaway has already earned itself the prestigious title of best chip shop in the East Midlands.
