Teenage girl, 15, dies after she is hit by car in Cardiff as man, 40, arrested for causing death by dangerous driving

A 15-YEAR-OLD girl has died after being hit by a car in a horror crash with one man arrested.

Cops and emergency services rushed to the scene in Caerau in Cardiff shortly after 9.30pm yesterday after reports of a collision.

A 40-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Formal identification of the teen has yet to take place and investigations into the collision continue, said South Wales Police.

The shocking crash closed the road in both directions for several hours and there was a major police and emergency services presence at the scene.

Police said shortly after 6am on Tuesday that the road had reopened.

Later on Tuesday morning, a spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "Shortly after 9.30pm on Monday, May 1, South Wales Police was called following a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Heol Trelai, Caerau in Cardiff.

"A 15-year-old girl was declared dead at the scene. A 40-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been taken to Cardiff Bay Police Station.

"Formal identification has yet to take place.

"Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this time. Investigations into the collision continue."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called shortly after 21:30 yesterday evening, 01 May, to a road traffic accident on Heol Trelai in Cardiff.

"We deployed a rapid response vehicle, an emergency ambulance and were supported by the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service along with pre-hospital immediate care specialists from MEDSERVE Wales."
