Wetherspoons boozer evacuated after toilet waste fell through ceiling ‘onto drinkers below’

A WETHERSPOONS pub was forced to evacuate after toilet waste began leaking through the ceiling "onto drinkers below".

Diners at The Cricketers in Ipswich, Suffolk, were left horrified when "waste water" poured down from above into their pints.

Soaked staff and customers reportedly fled the popular boozer as foul-smelling liquid burst into the front of house on Monday.

Although the company did not clarify the contents of the liquid, customers suggested it was significantly worse than urine, reports

The pub was closed overnight before reopening the following day, with the management blaming contracted plumbers.

One woman claiming to have been at the pub at the time posted on social media: "The ceiling literally has fell through with human poo on somebody and even the staff was gagging and coming outside!"

Another wrote: "Someone was eating their dinner when suddenly they got covered in toilet waste when the ceiling collapsed."

The waste was alternatively described as "raw sewage", with more witnesses saying the "f***ing grim" smell was so bad they "couldn’t describe" it.

A spokesman for JD Wetherspoon said: "The incident was an isolated issue caused by a pipe bursting while contractors were on site undertaking routine, planned, descaling works to the pipework servicing the staff toilet.

"The issue was confined to one (or possibly two) tables at the front of the pub as waste water leaked down the window from the toilets above."

Despite the accident, the pub last made headlines when its toilets were formally rated as some of the finest in the UK just 10 months ago.

The "clean and well-maintained" facilities won a Platinum award at the Loo of the Year Awards 2021 following a glowing review by undercover inspectors.
