A COUPLE with a KN19 TER number plate were left in stitches after being fined because a woman in a 'KNITTER' T-shirt walked in a bus lane.

When his wife Paula, 54, looked at the traffic camera snap of the alleged offence she couldn't believe her eyes.

A woman strolling along the bus lane is seen wearing a T-shirt branded with the word KNITTER in black, bold font.

The computer mistook it to be David's KN19 TER personalised number plate, which he chose as a reference to his nickname Knighter.

David told the : "We’ve been laughing about it a lot. There was no way I was going to pay for a woman walking in a bus lane with a funny T-shirt on!"

A Bath and Somerset Council call handler erupted into laughter when Paula called up.

Paula said: "The fine had already gone up from £60 to £90 because we hadn’t paid within 30 days.

"Obviously no one had looked at the picture and it had been computer generated."
