SAS: Who Dares Wins star Ant Middleton faces sack as Chief Cadet after calling Black Lives Matter protesters ‘scum’
SAS: Who Dares Wins star Ant Middleton is reportedly facing the sack as Chief Cadet of the Royal Navy over his Black Lives Matter comments.
Top brass are said to be plotting to remove the Channel 4 star from his post after he branded protesters "absolute scum".
Middleton later apologised for the tweets but Navy chiefs are hoping they can persuade him to to resign from the honorary position, the
If he refuses, bosses will have no choice but to dismiss him to avoid a public row - and are reportedly too scared to sack TV's hardman face-to-face.
The move - seen in documents by the newspaper - comes just nine months after he was given the appointment.
BLM BACKLASH
His role as Chief Cadet was seen as a boost to the Volunteer Cadet Corps (VCC) as Middleton vowed to inspire budding young recruits.
But the document states: "The views he has expressed are not in keeping with the values that the VCC aspire to."
It comes after Middleton was slammed for comparing BLM campaigners to the the far-right English Defence League.
He wrote on Twitter: “The extreme left against the extreme right. When did two wrongs make a right. It was only a matter of time. BLM and EDL are not welcome on our streets, absolute scum.
"What a great example you are to your future generation. Bravo.”
CONTROVERSIAL COMMENTS
After taking down the tweet following backlash from fans, Ant told the Mirror: “On Saturday night, I made comments about the violence breaking out across our streets.
"While I remain dismayed at these actions, I am horrified to realise that my wording could be misconstrued.
“I did not mean to say that BLM are scum, or to imply that BLM and the EDL are equivalent.
"I was trying to make a comment about violent protestors of any kind who I despise.
I accept that my tweet was inappropriate and offensive and would like to apologise unconditionally.
"I am anti-racist, anti-hate and anti-violence.
“I believe in the right to protest, but change must come about through peaceful and legal means.”
The star was also blasted as “irresponsible” back in March when he told fans not to change what they are doing amid the coronavirus outbreak.
The 39-year-old insisted he would carry on as normal and encouraged others to do the same.
In a video posted online, he ranted: “Has my life changed? No. Am I going to let some disease, COVID-19, dictate my life? Absolutely not. Get out there, don’t change, F**k COVID-19!”.
He was later forced to backtrack and said he was only talking about himself and that everyone should "follow common sense".
