Boy, 10, dies after ‘falling down hole’ at building site as heartbroken family pay tribute

A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy has died after reportedly falling down a hole at a building site in Scotland.

The youngster, who has been named locally as Shea Ryan, was discovered in Drumchapel just before 10pm last night.

Tragically, he could not be saved and he has this morning been named locally as Shea Ryan.

His death is not being treated as suspicious and his cousin paid an emotional tribute to him online.

She said: “Cant believe it absolutely devastated, never in my life did I think that my beautiful, kind, caring wee cousin would be sent to heaven at this time of year and age.

“I’ll love you forever wee guy forever 10 ONLY ONE SHEA RYAN.”

According to the , locals said the youngster had apparently fallen into a drain at the site.

Local Facebook page Drumchapel Sunday wrote: “Drumchapel has lost 1 of its own at the peak of his future.  Not only touching the hearts of our home of drumchapel but afar.

“Not many will sleep much 2nite thinking all the questions that will need answers and how the poor family and friends are coping with this devastating blow they are having to deal with.

Cant believe it absolutely devastated, never in my life did I think that my beautiful, kind, caring wee cousin would be sent to heaven at this time of year and age.

Another local wrote: “Cannot sleep thinking of this wee guy and his whole family. Whole of drumchapel is shook rest easy wee man.”

Another added: “Heartbreaking my wee boys friend they shared the same taxi so sad.”

“BEAUTIFUL AND KIND”

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their attendance at the major incident.

Footage shared online shows officers running down a hill into the building site as they arrive on the scene.

Officers are still at the scene this morning, with the site having been taped off.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.55pm on Thursday, 16 July, police were called to a report of a boy seriously injured at a works site near Glenkirk Drive, Drumchapel, Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended and the 10 year-old boy was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he died a short time later.

“Police enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident, however the death is not being treated as suspicious.”

Health and Safety Executive have been informed.
