Home of double cop killer Dale Cregan snapped up for £71,000 – almost double its guide price
Two-bed semi bought by murderer's fraudster mum Anita in 2004 had been expected to sell at auction for just £40,000
THE home of double cop killer Dale Cregan has sold for almost double its guide price.
Proceeds from the sale will go to funding police work and other good causes.
The two-bed semi-detached house was expected to net around £40.000.
But it sold for £71,000 at auction after being seized by detectives investigating Cregan and his gang's ill gotten gains.
Cregan will never be released from prison after killing two innocent policewomen.
The property went for about the market price for homes of that size in the area.
An advert for the house had referred to the nature of the previous resident.
It said: “Purchasers are advised that the registered proprietor of the property is a convicted criminal and the buyer purchases the property in the full knowledge of this fact and shall raise no further requisitions in this regard.”
One-eyed drug dealer Cregan, 32, got life for murdering PCs Fiona Bone, 32, and Nicola Hughes, 23, in 2012 and will never be released.
An estate agent's advert lists the home as close to shopping amenities and transport links as well as "a more comprehensive range of shops, bars and restaurants in Manchester city centre".
The home was bought for Cregan in 2004 by his benefit fraudster mum Anita.
The police investigation established his mother had lied to lenders to obtain huge sums in loans.
She claimed to have well paid jobs as a grocer and a furniture dealer, but in reality the mum-of-four was claiming benefits.
In September Mrs Cregan was handed an eight-month suspended prison sentence and 100 hours of unpaid work after admitting obtaining a money transfer by deception, fraud and false representation.
Under proceeds of crime legislation, dubbed the gangster tax, authorities can go after the assets of people who have benefited from illegal activities.
The house, in Droylsden, Gtr Manchester, was formally repossessed last month and will be sold by auctioneers Barnard Marcus on Tuesday.
